Background: The renin angiotensin system (RAS) promotes vasoconstriction. Expression of RAS is induced by different factors.
Methods: In this study, forebrain sections of hamster brains were studied by immunohistochemical methods to determine the location of renin-positive and angiotensin II receptor-positive cells. The brain sections were obtained from diethylstilbesterol- (DES-) treated hamsters, adult non-DES-treated hamsters, elderly non-DES-treated hamsters, neonatal hamsters, and 15-day fetal hamsters. Circulating renin activity was determined for all but the neonatal and 15-day fetal hamsters.
Results: Renin-positive and angiotensin II receptor-positive vascular smooth muscle cells were observed in DES-treated hamsters. No positive cells were observed in neonatal, 15-day fetal, and adult non-DES-treated hamsters. Some expression was observed in elderly hamsters.
Conclusions: Therefore, focal expression of the renin angiotensin system in brain vasculature was induced by the synthetic estrogen DES.

Aldosterone is a key regulator of fluid and electrolyte balance in the body. It is often dysregulated in heart failure (HF) and is a key driver of cardiac remodelling and worse clinical outcomes. Potassium regulation is essential for normal cardiac, gastrointestinal and neuromuscular function.

Background: Sparsentan, a dual-acting antagonist for both the angiotensin II receptor type 1 and the endothelin receptor type A, has emerged as a promising therapeutic agent for the treatment of IgA nephropathy (IgAN). Following the publication of the PROTECT trial, sparsentan recently received approval for the treatment of IgAN in Europe. However, it remains uncertain whether an additive effect can be observed in the context of existing treatment with sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors, given that the PROTECT study did not investigate this dual therapy approach.

Balance between Protective vs. Exacerbating Effects of ACEIs and ARBs in Omicron Variant Infections. The spike protein on the surface of the Omicron variant has a high affinity for ACE2, making it more prone to enter cells and induce ACE2 downregulation.

Genetic deletion of genes that ultimately restrict Ang II formation has been shown to result in marked anemia in mice. In this study, adult mice with a genetic deletion of the RAS precursor protein angiotensinogen (Agt-KO) were used.

Ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) is a common pathogenic situation that arises throughout all liver surgeries, including liver transplants. We aimed to compare the preventive effects of valsartan (VST) against valsartan + sacubitril (LCZ696) on hepatic injury caused by IRI. A total of thirty-six male Westar albino rats were split into six groups randomly: sham, IRI, VST + IRI, LCZ696 + IRI, VST, and LCZ696.
