Purifying membrane proteins has been the limiting step for studying their structure and function. The challenges of the process include the low expression levels in heterologous systems and the requirement for their biochemical stabilization in solution. The human voltage-gated proton channel (hH1) is a good example of that: the published protocols to express and purify hH1 produce low protein quantities at high costs, which is an issue for systematically characterizing its structure and function.

Interactions between microbial communities and the host can modulate mosquito biology, including vector competence. Therefore, future vector biocontrol measures will utilize these interactions and require extensive monitoring of the mosquito microbiome. Metabarcoding strategies will be useful for conducting vector monitoring on a large scale.

Introduction: Group B Streptococcus (GBS) is an opportunistic pathogen that can induce chorioamnionitis (CA), increasing the risk of neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) in the offspring. The placenta facilitates maternal-fetal communication through the release of extracellular vesicles (EVs), which may carry inflammatory molecules such as interleukin (IL)-1. Although the role of EVs in immune modulation is well established, their specific characterization in the context of GBS-induced CA has not yet been investigated.

The health burden of waterborne nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) is a rising concern. While the water supply systems can serve as a potential reservoir for NTM, their abundance, diversity, and transmission pathways remain unknown. This study aimed to characterize the prevalence and regrowth of NTM in building water supply system in a hospital where many M.
