Rationale: Spontaneous subcapsular hepatic hematoma (SSHH) is a rare yet severe complication of hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelet count (HELLP) syndrome that can lead to life-threatening situations for both the mother and fetus. Determining an appropriate therapeutic strategy remains challenging, as it involves choosing between surgery, microinvasive percutaneous transhepatic drainage, or conservative treatment alone. Further successful cases are needed to support the optimal option.

Methods: CENTRAL, MEDLINE/PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus, from the date of inception of the databases to February 3, 2024 were searched.

Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy are a major contributor to maternal morbidity and mortality in the United States and include chronic and gestational hypertension, preeclampsia, HELLP (hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelet count) syndrome, eclampsia, and chronic hypertension with superimposed preeclampsia. For patients with chronic hypertension, oral antihypertensive therapy should be initiated or titrated at a blood pressure threshold of 140/90 mm Hg or greater. Gestational hypertension and preeclampsia without severe features can be managed with blood pressure monitoring, laboratory testing for disease progression, antenatal testing for fetal well-being, and delivery at 37 weeks' gestation.

Background: HELLP syndrome, featuring hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and thrombocytopenia, is life-threatening disease of pregnancy that triggers comorbidities in both pregnant women and the fetus/newborn. This study provides an updated systematic review and meta-analysis of relevant studies to assess the therapeutic efficacy of corticosteroids in maternal and neonatal outcomes.
Methods: Randomized control trials (RCTs) regarding the use of corticosteroids in the HELLP population from three electronic databases, including Ovid MEDLINE, Ovid EMBASE, andCochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, were searched from database inception to 23 March 202323 March 2023.
