Background: Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonists are commonly prescribed for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Concerns have emerged regarding their potential link to diabetic retinopathy (DR).

Methods: To evaluate the association between GLP-1 agonists and DR, a disproportionality analysis was conducted using FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) data from Q4/2003 to Q2/2024 via OpenVigil 2.

Background: Type 2 diabetes (T2D) has become a significant global health threat, yet its precise causes and mechanisms remain unclear. This study aims to identify gene expression patterns specific to T2D pancreatic islet cells and to explore the potential role of pancreatic stellate cells (PSCs) in T2D progression through regulatory networks involving lncRNA-mRNA interactions.

Methods: In this study, we screened for upregulated genes in T2D pancreatic islet samples using bulk sequencing (bulkseq) datasets and mapped these gene expression profiles onto three T2D single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNAseq) datasets.

Brain Iron Deposition Alterations in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Patients With Mild Cognitive Impairment Based on Quantitative Susceptibility Mapping.

J Diabetes

January 2025

Department of Radiology, Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital, Affiliated Hospital of Medical School, Nanjing University, Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province, China.

Background: Iron is one of the most important elements in brain that may has a direct impact on the stability of central nervous system. The current study devoted to explore the alterations of iron distribution across the whole brain in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI).

Methods: The quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) technique was used to quantify the intracranial iron content of 74 T2DM patients with MCI and 86 T2DM patients with normal cognition (NC).

Identification of a critical interval for type 2 diabetes QTL on chromosome 4 in DDD-A mice.

Mamm Genome

January 2025

Institute of Livestock and Grassland Science, National Agriculture and Food Research Organization (NARO), Tsukuba, Ibaraki, 305-0901, Japan.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) in male KK-A and B6-A mice is typically associated with hyperinsulinemia, whereas male DDD-A mice exhibit a marked decrease in circulating insulin levels due to the loss of pancreatic islet β-cells. T2D in male DDD-A mice is linked to Nidd/DDD, a significant quantitative trait locus (QTL) mapped with a 95% confidence interval (CI) between 112.44 and 151.

Objectives: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that entails significant burdens to patients, caregivers and society at large. While self-management behaviours like healthy eating and monitoring of blood glucose help to reduce the care burden, they are still perceived to be burdensome. Mobile applications have emerged as promising digital tools in helping patients to self-manage their conditions.
