One of the deadliest types of cancer is pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Chronic stress and obesity are recognized as risk factors for PDAC. We hypothesized that the combination of stress and obesity strongly promotes pancreatic cancer development and growth.

Excess thyroid hormone secretion can cause endocrine metabolic disorders, which can lead to cardiovascular diseases, including heart enlargement, atrial fibrillation (AF), and heart failure. The present study investigated the molecular mechanisms of hyperthyroidism-induced AF. A rabbit susceptibility model of hyperthyroidism-induced AF was constructed, and metoprolol treatment was administered.

The activation of phospholipase C (PLC) is thought to have a key role in the cardiomyocyte response to several different hypertrophic agents such as norepinephrine, angiotensin II and endothelin-1. PLC activity results in the generation of diacylglycerol and inositol trisphosphate, which are downstream signal transducers for the expression of fetal genes, increased protein synthesis, and subsequent cardiomyocyte growth. In this article, we describe the signal transduction elements that regulate PLC gene expression.

The higher norepinephrine (NE) concentration induced by sympathetic nerve hyperactivation participated in pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells (PASMCs) over-proliferation and led to pulmonary vascular remodeling (PVR), which played an important role in pulmonary artery hypertension (PAH). However, the underlying mechanism by which NE induced PASMCs proliferation had not been fully elucidated. In the present study, we found that prazosin, the inhibitor of α-AR, reversed hypoxia-induced changes in pulmonary circulatory function which were analyzed by echocardiography to measure pulmonary artery acceleration time (PAT) and pulmonary arterial velocity time integral (PAVTI) and right heart catheterization to test right ventricular systolic pressure (RVSP), respectively.
