Cellular therapy is a promising treatment option for Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD). Different cell types can be used to regenerate and repair tissues affected by PAD. Many studies have proposed the use of stem cells, such as mesenchymal stem cells, or even mononuclear cells isolated from peripheral blood or bone marrow, to treat PAD.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Delirium is an acute state of confusion associated with adverse postoperative outcomes. Delirium is diagnosed clinically using screening tools; most cases go undetected. Identifying a delirium biomarker would allow for accurate diagnosis, application of therapies, and insight into causal pathways.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: The ARTS biomarker is a fully automated software container that predicts the presence of arteriolosclerosis based on in-vivo MRI data and demographic features. The present study describes findings from the instrumental and clinical validation of ARTS conducted by the MarkVCID consortium.
Method: Instrumental validation of ARTS involved assessment of inter-rater reliability, test-retest repeatability, and inter-scanner reproducibility.

Background: Little is known about how plasma Alzheimer's disease (AD) biomarkers relate to neuroimaging biomarkers of cerebral small vessel disease (cSVD) in the context of neurodegeneration and AD pathology in late life.
Method: This cross-sectional study included 251 Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA) Exam 6 participants with plasma AD biomarkers (Aβ42/Aβ40, GFAP, NfL, p-tau181, p-tau217, p-tau231; Quanterix SIMOA), MRI (neurodegeneration and cSVD), PiB (amyloid) PET, and UDSv3-based adjudicated cognitive status (69% cognitively normal, 27% MCI, 4% probable dementia) data at the Wake Forest site. Multivariable models examined relationships among cognitive status, plasma, and neuroimaging biomarkers (covariates: age, education, race, gender, smoking status, kidney function [eGFR], APOE-ε4, BMI; significance at p<.
Background: Seizures maybe associated with worse neuropathology findings in people with dementia. However, the role of seizure control and how it may impact post-mortem histopathology findings in people with dementia remains unexplored.
Method: We used the longitudinal, multicenter National Alzheimer Coordinating Center data from 9/2005 to 12/2021 to evaluate the association between seizure control and histopathological neurodegenerative changes in people with dementia.
