Objective: To report an unusual case of inferior vena cava obstruction secondary to urinary retention.
Methods/results: A 72-year-old male patient with a history of bilateral inguinal hernia and a recent hip surgery, presented with deep venous thrombosis in the left leg. A CT scan disclosed significant thickening of the bladder wall and grade III-IV hypertrophy of the prostate. Abdominal ultrasound disclosed a cystic mass compressing the vena cava and moderate ureterohydronephrosis. Edema spontaneously resolved following insertion of a urethral catheter and renal function returned to normal.
Conclusion: Obstruction of the inferior vena cava secondary to an enlarged bladder is rare. To our knowledge only two such cases have been reported in the literature. In the case described herein, urinary retention may have been exacerbated by prostatic hypertrophy, anesthesia and bed confinement due to hip surgery.

Objective: To explore the application of low-energy image in dual-energy spectral CT (DEsCT) combined with deep learning image reconstruction (DLIR) to improve inferior vena cava imaging.
Materials And Methods: Thirty patients with inferior vena cava syndrome underwent contrast-enhanced upper abdominal CT with routine dose, and the 40, 50, 60, 70, and 80 keV images in the delayed phase were first reconstructed with the ASiR-V40% algorithm. Image quality was evaluated both quantitatively [CT value, SD, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) for inferior vena cava] and qualitatively to select an optimal energy level with the best image quality.

Intrapericardial teratoma is a rare tumor that usually presents in neonates or during infancy because of the associated high degree of pericardial effusion, cardiac compression and severe respiratory distress. In this paper, we report a rare case of intrapericardial teratoma that was incidentally discovered in an infant with superior vena cava obstruction following pericardial effusion absorption. Echocardiography and thoracic computed tomography angiography revealed that the intrapericardial mass obviously suppressed the superior vena cava.

Hemodynamic processes from the portal vein(PV) to the inferior vena cava(IVC) were mimicked for three patients with portal hypertension(PH) and the effects of stent parameters on the outcomes of transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt(TIPS) were investigated through computational fluid dynamics(CFD). The liver region was simulated with porous media model and the spatial distributions of superior mesenteric vein(SMV) and splenic vein(SV) blood were solved through the Eulerian multiphase model. The present method is able to simulate the PH flow and predict the PV pressure, the stent shunt rate and the SMV blood proportion after TIPS treatment.
