Interferon (INF) has been incorporated as part of maintenance therapy after high dose treatment in order to make remissions more durable. In this study we have compared peripheral blood stem cell transplant (PBSCT) versus autologous bone marrow transplant (ABMT) with respect to INF tolerance. Thirty nine PBSCT patients have been compared to 37 ABMT patients for INF tolerance. This is followed by a comparison of 15 PBSCT patients versus 21 ABMT patients for engraftment details, response and survival. INF was started at a median of 61 days in the PBSCT and 58 days in the ABMT patients (P = NS). It was well tolerated in both groups without a significant difference in toxicity in the two arms. Engraftment was more rapid in the PBSCT patients with platelet recovery being significantly faster. Response and survival showed a favourable trend for ABMT patients though statistical significance was not reached and the cost of PBSCT was 12% cheaper. We were thus able to conclude that PBSCT grafts were as durable and could tolerate INF just as well as ABMT. Engraftment was more rapid and the procedure of PBSCT was also cheaper. Further studies with a larger group of patients will be required before comments on the efficacy of treatment can be made.

Background: A diagnostic criterion of Anorexia Nervosa (AN) is body image disturbance. Body exposure therapy is a widely used approach to treat this; however, it is unclear which part of body exposure therapy is relevant for regaining a realistic perspective on the own body. This study aimed to examine the role of the attentional bias (AB), which AN patients exhibit to the most disliked parts of their body.

Aim: This study explores the acceptance of Advanced Behavior Management Techniques (ABMTs) by parents during their children's dental treatments, comparing the opinion of parents of neurotypical children with that of parents of children with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs).
Methods: An observational cross-sectional study was conducted involving 440 parents, divided into two groups: 236 parents of neurotypical children and 204 parents of children with ASDs, recruited from pediatricians' centers and centers for ASDs children in Northern and Southern Italy. A survey assessed their familiarity and acceptance of ABMTs, including protective stabilization, conscious sedation, and deep sedation/general anesthesia.

We report here the long-term follow-up of the only prospective randomized trial of autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (auto-HSCT) with peripheral blood stem cells (APBSCT) versus auto-HSCT with bone marrow (ABMT) in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients in first remission (CR). We observed that among patients alive and still in CR 5 years after planned auto-HSCT, approximately 10% of the patients died in the following 10 years. This stresses the need for long-term close surveillance of AML patients after auto-HSCT.

Anorexia nervosa (AN) patients exhibit attentional bias (AB) related to the body, which is the tendency to pay greater attention to weight-related body areas compared to non-weight-related ones. This phenomenon has been linked to elevated levels of body dissatisfaction (BD) and may potentially reduce the effectiveness of body exposure therapy. The purpose of this pilot study is to assess the efficacy of a single session of a new body-related AB modification task (ABMT) that combines virtual reality with eye tracking in patients with AN.

Mirror exposure therapies (METs) have been shown to be effective in reducing body image disturbances through the habituation process. Virtual reality (VR) combined with eye-tracking techniques can provide innovative solutions to some of METs' limitations reported with patients with anorexia nervosa (AN), especially the negative influence of body-related attentional bias (AB). This pilot study aimed to assess the preliminary efficacy of a new VR-based AB modification task (ABMT) among healthy women and the procedure's user experience.
