[Scintigraphy studies of lymph flow in paralyzed upper extremities].

Vasa

Abteilung für Physikalische Medizin und Medizinische Rehabilitation, Städtisches Krankenhaus München-Bogenhausen.

Published: May 1997

Background: In paralysed limbs quite often edemas are seen, which might pose problems during rehabilitation. The origin of these edemas is not fully understood.

Methods: 48 patients with hemiplegia and edema of the paralysed arm were studied; in 40 patients lymphoscintigraphic studies (static and dynamic lymphography) were performed.

Results: In 80% of these cases lymphatic flow in the paralysed arm was increased compared to the healthy arm. If there was marked edema in the paralysed arm, the increase of lymph flow was considerable (p < 0.01).

Conclusions: Edemas in hemiplegic extremities are not due to lymphedema, as in lymphedema the lymph flow usually is very slow. They most likely are caused by disorders of filtration and reabsorption, due to a dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system.

B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) with the fusion gene has a poor prognosis, and the mortality rate exceeds 90%, particularly in cases of extramedullary relapse (EMR). Herein, we present a case of a 46-year-old male patient who developed relapsed B-ALL with . The patient initially achieved a complete remission (CR) after induction therapy and underwent haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

Hematological malignancies are known to have cutaneous manifestations, either in the form of direct infiltration of skin by malignant cells or as a result of paraneoplastic syndrome. Many hematological malignancies, including chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), are known to cause malignancy-induced Eosinophilic Dermatoses. We present a case of an elderly woman who presented with multiple pruritic patches.

A 36-year-old woman with a history of neck swelling was diagnosed with papillary thyroid carcinoma, a common but typically slow-growing thyroid cancer with a good prognosis. Despite frequent lymph node metastasis, mortality rates are low. This cancer can rarely spread to unusual areas like the axillary region.

Potential therapeutic effect of dimethyl fumarate on Treg/Th17 cell imbalance in biliary atresia.

The imbalance between Tregs and proinflammatory Th17 cells in children with biliary atresia (BA) causes immune damage to cholangiocytes. Dimethyl fumarate (DMF), an immunomodulatory drug, regulates the Treg/Th17 balance in diseases like multiple sclerosis (MS). This study explores DMF's effect on Treg/Th17 balance in BA and its potential mechanism.

In this study, we assessed the utility of ultrasonography in monitoring the chemotherapeutic effects on primary thyroid lymphoma (PTL). This retrospective analysis included 17 patients with PTL who received chemotherapy from 2012 to 2022. The sonographic features were examined pre- and post-treatment using ultrasound (US) to monitor the treatment response at the first to second, third to fourth, and end cycles of chemotherapy and follow-up, and progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were analyzed.
