The effect of diazepam (0.5 mg/kg) and calcium channel blockers on the behavior of rats in an "open field" was studied on a model of incomplete amputation of vibrissae. Diazepam, diltiazem (1 mg/kg), fendiline (1 mg/kg), and cinnarizine (1 mg/kg) stimulated motor activity of animals with amputated vibrissae. Nifedipine (0.5-5 mg/kg) and verapamil (0.5-5 mg/kg) were practically inactive in these tests. It is concluded that diltiazem, fendiline, and cinnarizine possess anxiolytic activity in this model. On the basis of the results obtained, the methods for studying the anxiolytic activity on animals are discussed.

Non-linear summation of synaptic inputs to the dendrites of pyramidal neurons has been proposed to increase the computation capacity of neurons through coincidence detection, signal amplification, and additional logic operations such as XOR. Supralinear dendritic integration has been documented extensively in principal neurons, mediated by several voltage-dependent conductances. It has also been reported in parvalbumin-positive hippocampal basket cells, in dendrites innervated by feedback excitatory synapses.

Myocardial bridging is a frequent anomaly of the heart in humans and other animals. A myocardial bridge is typically characterized by the systolic narrowing seen with traditional catheter angiography, but this abnormality is not by itself a sign of ischemia or the need for intervention. In particular, transient spontaneous angina must be corroborated by reproducible narrowing during acetylcholine testing; this narrowing occurs during resting conditions and is responsive to nitroglycerin administration.

Emerging reports show that stretch/ultrasound-mediated mechanical forces promote apoptosis (mechanoptosis) by increasing myosin contractility. Since myosin contractility is critical for nanoscale-ligand spacing-regulated cell behavior, we study the effect of ligand spacing on mechanoptosis.
