Improving physical balance among older workers is essential for preventing falls in workplace. We aimed to elucidate the age-related decline in one-leg standing time with eyes closed, an indicator of static balance, and mitigating influence of daily walking habits on this decline in Japan. This longitudinal study involved 249 manufacturing workers, including seven females, aged 20-66 years engaged in tasks performed at height in the aircraft and spacecraft machinery industry.

In this paper, the mathematical model of the aviation pressure servo valve controlled actuator system(APSVCAS) considering nonlinearity is established based on a jet pipe pressure servo valve in this article. And the dynamic characteristics and stability boundary of APSVCAS are analyzed, which provides theoretical guidance for the actual composition and the determination of parameters. Firstly, a jet-tube two-stage pressure servo valve for aviation hydraulic system is designed, and an accurate model of APSVCAS is established considering multiple nonlinear factors.

Performance and Emission Characteristics of a Small Gas Turbine Engine Using Hexanol as a Biomass-Derived Fuel.

Materials (Basel)

December 2024

Centre of Heat and Power Engineering, Institute of Fluid Flow Machinery, Polish Academy of Sciences, 80-231 Gdańsk, Poland.

The global transition to renewable energy has amplified the need for sustainable aviation fuels. This study investigates hexanol, a biomass-derived alcohol, as an alternative fuel for small-scale gas turbines. Experimental trials were conducted on a JETPOL GTM-160 turbine, assessing blends of 25% (He25) and 50% (He50) hexanol with kerosene (JET A) under rotational velocities ranging from 40,000 to 110,000 RPM.

Self-contact snapping metamaterial for tensile energy dissipation.

Mater Horiz

December 2024

State Key Laboratory of New Ceramics and Fine Processing, School of Materials Science and Engineering, Tsinghua University, Beijing, 100084, P. R. China.

Mechanical metamaterials for energy dissipation have received significant attention for vibration and impact mitigation. However, existing designs often neglect energy dissipation in the tensile direction, which is crucial for attenuating tensile load and controlling falling descent. Importantly, current energy-dissipating mechanisms including plastic deformation and friction mechanisms, suffer from drawbacks such as reversibility and self-recovery, restricting their effectiveness under tension.

As air traffic intensity increases and stochastic uncertainties, such as wind direction and speed, continue to impact air traffic controllers' workload significantly, airlines are increasingly pressured to reduce costs by flying via straighter/more direct trajectories. Due to these changes, it is important to search for new means/solutions for aircraft conflict resolution to ensure the required level of safety and rational flight trajectory. Such a solution could be the implementation of Dubin's method of flight trajectories.
