Age-related changes are analyzed in the correlation of 3416 monozygotic and 3780 dizygotic U.S. twin pairs aged between 9 and 75+ years for conservatism scores derived from a 28-item social attitude inventory. The effects of the shared environment are overwhelming in twins aged 20 years or younger. In older twins, genetic effects appear to play a larger role. A more dynamic conception of the interaction between genes and environment in the development of complex human differences is needed.

To develop a method leveraging hospital-based surveillance to estimate influenza-related hospitalizations by state, age, and month as a means of enhancing current US influenza burden estimation efforts. Using data from the Influenza Hospitalization Surveillance Network (FluSurv-NET), we extrapolated monthly FluSurv-NET hospitalization rates after adjusting for testing practices and diagnostic test sensitivities to non-FluSurv-NET states. We used a Poisson zero-inflated model with an overdispersion parameter within the Bayesian hierarchical framework and accounted for uncertainty and variability between states and across time.

Radiotherapy is the main treatment for patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) and is associated with an increased risk of ischemic cerebrovascular events (ICVE). The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to determine the incidence of ICVE and carotid artery stenosis (CAS) in patients with HNC who receive radiotherapy and the risk factors for CAS. We enrolled 907 patients with HNC who underwent radiotherapy between February 2011 and June 2022 and obtained information on their clinical and tumor characteristics and their treatment from the clinical records.
