Back pain that is associated with lumbar spine pathology is a growing issue in the athlete population. As an aging population continues to remain active, it is essential for primary care physicians, general orthopaedic surgeons, and spine surgeons alike to understand the nuances of diagnosis and management in the recreational athlete population. This is a unique population due to the increased importance placed on returning to high levels of activity, but, by definition, they enjoy less resources and financial incentive to optimize their rehabilitation and return to sport compared with professional athletes.

Background: Lab users should display an understanding of microbiology tests and avoid inappropriate requests which may yield negative clinical consequences. Our research addressed diagnostic stewardship education and the perspectives of paediatric hospital doctors on their (1) self-perceived knowledge, (2) motivators for test ordering, (3) proposed educational interventions and (4) preferred teaching modalities.
Methods: An anonymous, mixed-methods, 34-item online questionnaire was distributed to paediatric doctors across three Irish hospital sites from March to May 2023.

Purpose: Advances in multidisciplinary treatment of childhood brain tumors have significantly prolonged survival and reduced treatment-related complications. This makes the accessibility of digital neurocognitive assessment an important issue in the post-pandemic era.
Methods: Twenty pediatric brain tumor patients were recruited between August 2023 and August 2024, and a total of eight standardized Cambridge Neuropsychological Test Automated Battery (CANTAB) tests targeting executive function, memory, and attention were applied on a digital system.
Background: Obesity is a global health issue that complicates surgical outcomes, particularly in bariatric/metabolic surgery candidates. Assessing functional capacity is critical for optimizing preoperative planning and postoperative care. The Duke Activity Status Index (DASI) is a simple, self-administered questionnaire that estimates functional capacity based on daily activities.

Trophic factors, such as neurotrophins, are fundamental for cellular processes including differentiation, growth, survival, and regeneration. These molecules exhibit significant morphological and phylogenetic conservation throughout the animal kingdom, indicating conserved functions. In fish, the oldest and most diverse group of vertebrates, neurotrophins, and their receptors play pivotal roles not only within the central nervous system but also in various peripheral tissues.
