The authors describe a new tool-set with which the determination of the burr hole-site using the BRW-stereotactic system can be done on a non-sterile-washed head. The described attainment permits an increased security, not only reducing exposure of the operative field to a minimum but also shortening the operative length. The use of this tool-set for marking smaller superficial cortical processes is also possible.

The domestic dog () is a competent host for () infection but no ante mortem diagnostic tests have been fully validated for this species. The aim of this study was to compare the performance of ante mortem diagnostic tests across samples collected from dogs considered to be at a high or low risk of sub-clinical infection. We previously tested a total of 164 dogs at a high risk of infection and here test 42 dogs at a low risk of infection and 77 presumed uninfected dogs with a combination of cell-based and/or serological diagnostic assays previously described for use in non-canid species.

In this study, numerical modeling and experimental tests of the sheet metal cutting process were carried out in order to determine the shape of the cutting knives for a roller shear, ensuring the minimization of burr on the cut edge. A rolling mill was used for the tests, enabling the replication of the cutting process in a roller shear (demonstrating the possibility of using cutting rollers). The cutting edges of the sheets were examined using light microscopy and then compared with the results of numerical simulations to determine the cutting quality.

Background: The role of beta-blockers in severe, traumatic brain injury (TBI) management is debated. Severe TBI may elicit a surge of catecholamines, which has been associated with increased morbidity and mortality. We hypothesize administering propranolol, a non-selective beta-blocker, within 48 h of TBI will reduce patient mortality within 30 days of injury.

Purpose: This study analyzed longitudinal data to examine whether occupational sitting time is associated with increases in body mass index (BMI) and five-year cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk.

Methods: We included 2,000 employed men and women (aged 31-60) from the German Study on Mental Health at Work (S-MGA) for a BMI analysis and 1,635 participants free of CVD at baseline (2011/2012) for a CVD analysis. Occupational sitting time was categorized into five groups (< 5, 5 to < 15, 15 to < 25, 25 to < 35, and ≥ 35 h per week).

Assessment on surface integrity in electrochemical grinding of AISI 304.

Electrochemical grinding (ECG) offers advantages such as burr-free and stress-free material removal. Despite its proven potential, limited research has addressed the comprehensive effects of key process parameters on the surface integrity of AISI 304 stainless steel, particularly for applications requiring high-quality finishes, such as medical components. This study bridges this gap by systematically investigating the influence of ECG key parameters including voltage, rotational speed, and electrolyte concentration on main surface integrity parameters including current density, surface roughness, microhardness, and surface texture.
