Context: COVID-19 has been associated with features of a cytokine storm syndrome with some patients sharing features with the hyperinflammatory disorder, secondary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (sHLH).
Hypothesis: We hypothesized that proteins associated with sHLH from other causes will be associated with COVID-sHLH and that subjects with fatal COVID-sHLH would have defects in immune-related pathways.
Methods And Models: We identified two cohorts of adult patients presenting with COVID-19 at two tertiary care hospitals in Seattle, Washington in 2020 and 2021.

Purpose Of Review: Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are persistent chemicals with many modern applications, leading to widespread contamination and universal human exposure. PFAS exposure during early life is of particular concern, given susceptibility of the developing fetal and infant brain to toxic exposures. This review aims to synthesize current evidence, discuss methodological challenges, and highlight research gaps to guide future studies on the impact of PFAS on neurodevelopment.

Pre-sleep worrying is associated with sleep disturbance, which in turn is associated with impaired affective wellbeing. However, studies examining the fine-grained temporal order of these variables are still lacking. In particular, within-person mediation of the association between pre-sleep worrying and the following day's affective wellbeing by subjective and objective indicators of sleep has not been tested yet.

Objective: The pathogenic mechanism of depression involves chronic inflammation, which can be affected by sedentary behavior. This study aimed to determine whether sedentary behavior modified the association between depression and risk of death in the hypertensive population.
Methods: Data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2007-2018) was analyzed.

Aim: Young women exhibit lower rates of cardiovascular disease (CVD) than age-matched men, a protective effect often attributed to estrogen's influence on cardiac and mitochondrial function. The risk of CVD increases in post-menopausal women, likely due to estrogen deficiency and aldosterone's negative effects, including those on mitochondria and other cellular targets. This study aimed to explore the link between estrogen deficiency and mitochondrial dysfunction in cardiac health.
