Extracellular vesicles derived from Msh homeobox 1 (Msx1)-overexpressing mesenchymal stem cells improve digit tip regeneration in an amputee mice model.

Sci Rep

October 2024

Department of Stem Cells and Developmental Biology, Cell Science Research Center, Royan Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Technology, ACECR, Tehran, Iran.

Article Synopsis
  • In adult mammals, limb regeneration is hampered by the lack of blastemal cells and regenerative signaling, but transgenic techniques using blastema-like cells (BlCs) from stem cells show potential for regeneration.
  • This research explores the use of extracellular vesicles (BlCs-EVs) derived from BlCs, which were confirmed through various analyses and demonstrated promising properties like growth factor presence.
  • Results from experiments indicated that BlCs-EVs significantly enhanced the abilities of mesenchymal stem cells and improved digit tip regeneration in mice, suggesting a viable alternative to more controversial regenerative methods.

Article Synopsis
  • * It is linked to changes in the ectodysplasin A (EDA) gene and requires a collaborative approach for effective management, focusing on early detection and targeted treatments.
  • * The case of a 22-year-old male patient exemplifies HED features such as hypodontia, sparse hair, an abnormal beard, and an inability to sweat, which can raise body temperature risks; ongoing research is needed for better therapies and improved quality of life.

Introduction: Despite numerous treatment options for nail lichen planus (NLP), a validated method for measuring the severity of NLP and therapeutic response in clinical trials is absent. The aim of the study was to develop and validate a measurement instrument, Typical Nail Lichen Planus Severity Index (tNLPSI), for typical NLP that could be used in clinical trials.

Methods: A total of 48 patients pathologically confirmed with typical NLP were enrolled in this study.

Iatrogenic femoral artery injury due to cerclage wiring for diaphyseal femoral fracture: A case report and review the literature.

Int J Surg Case Rep

June 2024

Institute of Trauma and Orthopaedics, 108 Central Military Hospital, No. 01 Tran Hung Dao Street, Hanoi, Viet Nam. Electronic address:

Introduction And Importance: During femoral fracture osteosynthesis, the superficial femoral artery can be incarcerated in the cerclage wiring. We report a case that had an iatrogenic superficial femoral artery injury due to cerclage wiring during femoral osteosynthesis.

Case Presentation: I reported a 57-year-old patient presented with a fracture at the distal third of the left femur.
