Given N points or events occurring according to some probability distribution in the unit interval (0, 1), the simple scan statistic is defined to be the maximum number of points in any sub-interval of length d. In many areas, as in epidemiology, it is used to test the null hypothesis that the events are random, against the alternative that they cluster within some window of fixed width d. Since d must be chosen without snooping at the data, the test restricts the alternative to clusters of a fixed size. In this paper, we propose a scan statistic with a variable window, whose size does not need to be chosen a priori. This test is the generalized likelihood ratio test for a uniform null distribution against an alternative of non-random clustering which allows for clusters of variable width. A simple algorithm for the implementation of the method is given and applied to birth defects data previously analysed by a simple scan statistic.

Background: Coronary artery calcium, a marker of coronary atherosclerosis, is often identified on noncoronary chest computed tomography (CT). We wanted to evaluate the correlation between the presence of coronary plaques in coronary artery catheterization and coronary calcifications as shown in noncardiac chest CT.
Methods: A retrospective case-control study consisting of cases (N = 63) and controls (N = 29), aged 18-70 years old, residing in northern Israel and treated in the Intensive Cardiac Care Unit of Ziv Medical Center, between January 2020 and November 2022.

Purpose: Cysticercosis, caused by Taenia solium larvae, can affect various ocular and extraocular structures, leading to significant morbidity. Ultrasound B-scan imaging plays a pivotal role in diagnosing and classifying cysticercosis lesions. The aim of the study was to describe the ultrasound B-scan characteristics of ocular and extraocular cysticercosis, proposing a classification system based on anatomical localization to enhance understanding and management.

Aim: Subsolid nodules are increasingly detected during physical examinations with computed tomography (CT) scan and video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) is the standard treatment. This study compared the effectiveness of preoperative localisation of subsolid pulmonary nodules using a hook-wire and a microcoil under CT guidance prior to VATS.
Materials And Methods: Patients with solitary subsolid pulmonary nodules (n = 342) underwent percutaneous puncture localisation guided by CT before VATS.

Background: /aims. Pseudoxanthoma Elasticum (PXE, OMIM 264800) is an autosomal, recessive, metabolic disorder characterized by progressive ectopic calcification in the skin, the vasculature and Bruch's membrane. Variants in the ABCC6 gene are associated with low plasma pyrophosphate (PPi) concentration.

Objective: Our retrospective study aimed to investigate the role of computed tomography (CT) using both the tomographic Fagotti index and the Sugarbaker peritoneal cancer index (PCI) in predicting the feasibility of optimal interval debulking surgery in epithelial ovarian cancer.
Methods: Patients with advanced ovarian cancer treated in our institution who were eligible for interval debulking surgery were identified and included in the study. A retrospective image collection was operated, and CT scan evaluations were conducted by 2 independent radiologists to establish both scores (Fagotti index and Sugarbaker PCI).
