Background: Magnesium (Mg) is essential for plant growth and development and plays critical roles in physiological and biochemical processes. Mg deficiency adversely affects growth of plants by limiting shoot and root development, disturbing the structure and membranes of the grana, reducing photosynthesis efficiency, and lowering net CO assimilation. The MGT (Magnesium transporter) family is responsible for the absorption and transportation of magnesium in plants.

The ability to produce pulcherriminic acid is a characteristic feature of yeast species of the pulcherrima clade recently merged under the taxonomic name Metschnikowia pulcherrima. This iron chelator cyclodipeptide forms pulcherrimin, a maroon-red pigment with ferric ions. Its synthesis and secretion into the environment is under the control of closely linked genes referred to as the PUL cluster.

The mutation in domestic cats causes variegated patches of reddish/yellow hair and is a defining signature of random X-inactivation in female tortoiseshell and calico cats. Unlike the situation for most coat color genes, there is no apparent homolog for in other mammals. We show that the is caused by a 5 kb deletion that leads to ectopic and melanocyte-specific expression of the ( ) gene.

Epigenetic Regulation of Anthocyanin Biosynthesis in 'Purple Rain'.

Int J Mol Sci

State Key Laboratory of Tree Genetics and Breeding, Chinese Academy of Forestry, Northeast Forestry University, Harbin 150040, China.

'Purple Rain' is characterized by its purple leaves and has ornamental applications. A green mutant line NL, which was mutated by line NZ of 'Purple Rain' during tissue culture, shows green leaves instead of the typical purple color of 'Purple Rain'. This study quantified the leaf color traits of NL and a normal 'Purple Rain' line NZ, and uncovered differentially expressed genes involved in flavonoid biosynthesis pathway genes in NL through RNA-Seq analysis.

The recently described tomato mutant, which has a variegated leaf phenotype, has been shown to affect canalization of yield. The corresponding protein is orthologous to AtSCO2 -SNOWY COTYLEDON 2, which has suggested roles in thylakoid biogenesis. Here we characterize the mutant through a multi-omics approach, by comparing mutant to wild-type tissues.
