High-pressure (0.8 gigapascals) granulite facies garnet from Gore Mountain, New York, hosts multiple solid inclusions containing the low-pressure silica polymorph cristobalite along with albite and minor ilmenite. Identification of cristobalite is based on Raman spectra, electron microprobe analysis, and microthermometric measurements on the alpha/beta phase transformation. The cristobalite plus albite inclusions may have originated as small, trapped samples of hydrous sodium-aluminum-siliceous melt. Diffusive loss of water from these inclusions under isothermal, isochoric conditions may have resulted in a large enough internal pressure decrease to promote the metastable crystallization of cristobalite.

The geochemistry of fly ash produced from the combustion of coal at thermal power plants presents a significant challenge for disposal and environmental impact due to its complex mineralogical and elemental composition. The objective of this study was to investigate the mineralogical and elemental distribution of thirty lignite samples from the Barmer Basin using advanced techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). XRD analysis revealed the presence of minerals such as haematite (FeO), nepheline, anhydrite, magnesite, andalusite, spinel and anatase.

Lead (Pb) metal accumulation in surrounding environments can cause serious threats to human health, causing liver and kidney function damage. This work explored the potential of applying the MICP technology to remediate Pb-rich water bodies and Pb-contaminated loess soil sites. In the test tube experiments, the Pb immobilization efficiency of above 85% is attained through PbCO and Pb(CO)(OH) precipitation.

The source and significance of pulmonary silicate crystals in animals and people are poorly understood. To estimate the prevalence and characterize the pulmonary crystalline material in animals from St. Kitts, tissue samples from dogs, horses, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, mongooses, and monkeys were examined by light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive x-ray analysis (SEM/EDXA), and x-ray diffraction.

Clinoptilolite based zeolite-geopolymer foams (abbreviated as CFs) were prepared from natural clinoptilolite and calcined clinoptilolite, using HO solution as pore former through a straightforward process. Natural clinoptilolite and CFs are characterized by analytical techniques including optical microscope, XRF, FTIR, XRD, BET, MIP and SEM. The obtained CFs possesses micropores of zeolite and meso/macropores of geopolymer matrix.

This work reports on the thermoluminescence (TL) properties and detection of contaminating minerals isolated from Mexican cocoa beans irradiated with gamma radiation and stored for 4 years. Contaminating minerals isolated from cocoa beans consisting of quartz, diopside, plagioclase, albite, and iron oxide with irregular and rectangular grains and average length of 135 μm. Cocoa beans are detected as irradiated even after 4 years of storage using the shape and maximum temperature of the TL glow curve of contaminating minerals.
