Objective: Benign intracranial hypertension (BIH) may be caused by intracranial venous sinus thrombosis. Cerebral angiograms may, however, be normal in patients with BIH that are associated with conditions with an increased risk of venous thrombosis. This raises the possibility that unrecognised non-occlusive venous thrombus might impede CSF drainage. This study therefore examined the strength of the association between risk factors for thrombosis and BIH.

Methods: The incidence of prothrombotic abnormalities among a mixed prospectively and retrospectively investigated cohort of 38 patients with BIH, was compared with healthy obese subjects, and patients with other neurological diseases. Prothrombotic abnormalities investigated included anticardiolipin antibodies, lupus anticoagulant, antithrombin III, proteins C and S, plasma fibrinogen, kaolin cephalin clotting time, prothrombin time, and full blood counts.

Results: Evidence for the presence of an antiphospholipid antibody was found in 32% of cases. Cases of familial deficiency of antithrombin III, thrombocytosis, and polycythaemia were also noted. Additionally, an increased concentration of plasma fibrinogen was found in 26%. A coagulation abnormality was more often detectable in those subjects with normal or low body mass index and in those tested within six months of onset.

Conclusion: There is a thrombotic pathogenesis in some cases of BIH.

Background:  V617F-mutated myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) exhibit abnormal proliferation of bone marrow progenitors and increased risk of thrombosis, specifically in splanchnic veins (SVT). The contribution of the endothelium to the development of the prothrombotic phenotype was explored.

Material And Methods:  Plasma and serum samples from V617F MPN patients with (n=26) or without (n=7) thrombotic debut and different treatments, were obtained (n=33).

Introduction: Thyrotoxicosis is associated with a hypercoagulable state, increasing the risk of thrombotic events like CVST. Literature review reveals thyroid hormone's role in promoting prothrombotic abnormalities, impacting coagulation factors and platelet function.

Case Report: This study explores the rare occurrence of thyroid storm complicated by deep cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) in a young male with no prior history of thyroid disease.

Haemotoxicity is the most common complication of systemic envenoming following snakebite, leading to diverse clinical syndromes ranging from haemorrhagic to prothrombotic manifestations. Key haematological abnormalities include platelet dysfunction, venom-induced consumption coagulopathy, anticoagulant coagulopathy and organ-threatening thrombotic microangiopathy. Diagnostic methods include the bedside whole blood clotting test, laboratory coagulation screening and other advanced methods such as thromboelastogram and clot strength analysis.

Introduction: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a disorder of multiple etiologies characterized by chronic hyperglycemia resulting from defects in insulin secretion and/or insulin action. DM patients have a disturbance of hemostasis, leading to a prothrombotic state characterized by platelet hypersensitivity, coagulation factor disorders, and hypo-fibrinolysis. Therefore, the primary goal of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to determine the pooled Standard Mean Difference (SMD) of prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) of DM patients in Africa.

This editorial article is intended to perform a discussion on the manuscript entitled "Simultaneous portal vein thrombosis and splenic vein thrombosis in a COVID-19 patient: A case report and review of literature" written by Abramowitz . The article focuses on the diagnostic processes in a 77-year-old-male patient with a simultaneous portal vein and splenic artery thrombosis accompanying coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The authors postulated that splanchnic thrombosis should be on the list of differential diagnoses in a patient presenting with abdominal pain in presence of a COVID-19 infection.
