Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a major contributor to morbidity and mortality in infants. We developed an in vitro model of human respiratory infection to study cellular immune responses to RSV in infants, children, and adults. The model includes human lung epithelial A549 cells or human fetal lung fibroblasts infected with a clinical strain of RSV at a multiplicity of infection of 0.

Finding effective alternatives to antibiotics is crucial for sustainable aquaculture. Host-derived probiotics have great potential as a promising alternative to antibiotics for immune regulation and disease control in fish farming. However, limited research exists regarding the application of native probiotics in largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides).

Humans can be exposed to LCCPs through air and diet, leading to their accumulation in the body. Given the significance of understanding potential health risks, a thorough investigation into the detrimental health impacts of LCCPs is paramount. In this study, we conducted a series of experiments to investigate the effects of LCCPs on cardiomyocytes, employing techniques such as flow cytometry, western-blot, indirect immunofluorescence, and confocal microscopy.

Background: Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonists are an existing treatment option for patients with insulin-resistant states, which elicit further pleiotropic effects related to immune cell recruitment and vascular inflammation. GLP-1 agonists downregulate the cluster of differentiation 147 (CD147) receptor, one of several receptors for the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein that mediate viral infection of host cells.
Methods: We conducted an open-label prospective safety and tolerability study including biomarker responses of the GLP-1 agonist Liraglutide, administered for 5 days as an add-on therapy to the standard of care within 48 h of presentation in a cohort of 13 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 pneumonia.

Delirium is a highly prevalent neuropsychiatric syndrome characterised by acute and fluctuating impairments in attention and cognition. Mechanisms driving delirium are poorly understood but it has been suggested that blood cytokines and chemokines cross the blood brain barrier during delirium, directly impairing brain function. It is not known whether these molecules reach higher brain levels when the blood cerebrospinal fluid barrier (BCSFB) is impaired.
