Published: March 1997

In the newborn and in the children are frequent features like congenital laryngeal stridor, croup, weak or absent cry, cyanotic attacks, apneic attacks, and sometimes are due to disease like laryngomalacia, tracheomalacia, laryngeal web, post-intubation lesions and stenosis, tracheo-esophageal fistula. The Author present an experience of four years in the Vicenza's Hospital with rigid telescopes and flexible fiberoptic instruments in the endoscopic valuation and treatment of this pathology. Moreover present a new technics for the preoperative incannulation of the tracheoesophageal fistula using the flexible fiberscope.

Surgery for tracheal and laryngotracheal stenosis: a historical case series.

Eur J Cardiothorac Surg

February 2024

Thoracic Surgery Unit, Department of Cardiac, Thoracic, Vascular Sciences and Public Health, University of Padua, Padua, Italy.

Objectives: Benign (laryngo-)tracheal stenosis is a relatively rare pathology and its surgical treatment is performed only at few specialized centres. This study aims to investigate outcomes after (laryngo-)tracheal resection-anastomosis, to explore potential risk factors for postoperative complications and to assess whether, over a 33-year period, there were major changes in surgical indications, techniques or outcomes.

Methods: Retrospective, single-centre review of all consecutive patients who underwent tracheal or laryngo-tracheal resection/anastomosis for benign pathologies from 1990 to 2023.

3D bioprinting in airway reconstructive surgery: A pilot study.

Int J Pediatr Otorhinolaryngol

October 2022

Airway Surgery Unit, Department of Surgical Specialties, Bambino Gesù Children's Hospital, IRCCS, Rome, Italy.

Objectives: Open surgery is a reliable choice for congenital subglottic stenosis, that represents the third most common congenital anomaly of the larynx. One of the procedures performed is anterior laryngotracheal reconstruction (LTR) with anterior rib graft. The objective of this preliminary study was to evaluate the potential of 3D printing technology for the realization of laryngo-tracheal scaffold in Polycaprolactone (PCL) implanted in vivo in ovine animal model.

Laryngotracheal stenosis (LTS) is a complex and heterogeneous disease whose pathogenesis remains unclear. LTS is considered to be the result of aberrant wound-healing process that leads to fibrotic scarring, originating from different aetiology. Although iatrogenic aetiology is the main cause of subglottic or tracheal stenosis, also autoimmune and infectious diseases may be involved in causing LTS.

Airway involvement by advanced thyroid carcinoma (TC) constitutes a negative prognosticator, besides being a critical clinical issue since it represents one of the most frequent causes of death in locally advanced disease. It is generally agreed that, for appropriate laryngo-tracheal patterns of invasion, (crico-)tracheal resection and primary anastomosis [(C)TRA] is the preferred surgical technique in this clinical scenario. However, the results of long-term outcomes of (C)TRA are scarce in the literature, due to the rarity of such cases.

Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma of larynx is extremely rare location. We herein describe an unusual clinical and radiological presentation of ACCL and review recent literature. We report a case of a 38-year-old woman with history of asthma, presented to our department with acute inspiratory dyspnea that required an emergency tracheotomy.
