Absence of early signs specific for thallium intoxication requires objective diagnostic methods. The studies covered 4 techniques: electroretinography (ERG), assessment of urine levels of thallium and delta-aminolevulinic acid, capillaroscopy. The authors supported their previous foundation concerning diagnostic value of ERG for early diagnosis of thallium effects (higher amplitude of b-wave in one and that of a-wave in 8 out of 10 examinees). Further experimental and clinical basis for grading the intoxication through amounts of urinary thallium were found promising. Capillaroscopy method appeared informative: 8 out of 12 examinees demonstrated spastic and atonic state of hand capillaries--that provided objective verification of vascular disorders in workers exposed to thallium and its derivatives.

Background: Thallium-201 single-photon emission computed tomography (TI-SPECT) imaging has been used historically to distinguish malignant cerebral neoplasms from infectious etiologies.
Objectives: Our study aims to conduct a retrospective study, review existing literature, and perform meta-analysis on the use of TI-SPECT to differentiate malignant from non-malignant nervous system lesions when other advanced imaging modalities are not available, such as in resource-limited setting.
Methods: A retrospective study on the use of TI-SPECT in differentiating malignant versus non-malignant nervous system lesions was conducted in two tertiary hospitals in the Philippines.

Background: Due to the ability of metal ions to cross the blood-brain barrier, there has been interest in analyzing cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) for trace element concentrations to investigate possible correlations with neurodegenerative diseases. In this study, Sarstedt polypropylene CSF collection tubes were analyzed to determine the contamination levels of aluminum, titanium, chromium, manganese, cobalt, nickel, molybdenum, gadolinium, vanadium, arsenic, cadmium, mercury, lead, thallium, selenium, copper, zinc, and iron.
Methods: Sarstedt polypropylene CSF collection tubes from 2 separate lots (n = 10 per lot) were filled with a 2 mL aliquot of a CSF pool with known element concentrations.

Introduction: There are limited data available regarding the connection between heavy metal exposure and mortality among hypertension patients.
Aim: We intend to establish an interpretable machine learning (ML) model with high efficiency and robustness that monitors mortality based on heavy metal exposure among hypertension patients.
Methods: Our datasets were obtained from the US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES, 2013-2018).

(1) Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) belongs to the group of complex developmental disorders. Novel studies have suggested that genetic and environmental factors equally affect the risk of ASD. Identification of environmental factors involved in the development of ASD is therefore crucial for a better understanding of its etiology.
