Canadian children consume a significant proportion of daily foods at school, do not benefit from any federal school food program, and have historically inadequate diets. Assessment of dietary intakes at school can inform policy discussions for the design, funding, and delivery of school-based nutrition interventions. The objectives were to examine the most recent nationally representative dietary intake data of Canadian children at school by (i) location of food preparation, (ii) meal occasion, and (iii) as a proportion of total daily intakes.

ConspectusIn the search for efficient and selective electrocatalysts capable of converting greenhouse gases to value-added products, enzymes found in naturally existing bacteria provide the basis for most approaches toward electrocatalyst design. Ni,Fe-carbon monoxide dehydrogenase (Ni,Fe-CODH) is one such enzyme, with a nickel-iron-sulfur cluster named the C-cluster, where CO binds and is converted to CO at high rates near the thermodynamic potential. In this Account, we divide the enzyme's catalytic contributions into three categories based on location and function.

Colibacillosis is a disease caused by avian pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC) isolates which results in significant morbidity and mortality in poultry, as well as in economic loses. In order to identify APEC strains in a population of 898 E. coli isolates from poultry samples collected from different avian flocks located in the Valencian Region, Spain, we analysed the most significantly related to highly-pathogenic colibacillosis virulence-associated genes (VAGs) (hlyF, iroN, iss, iutA and ompT) by multiplex real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).

Banded iron formations (BIFs), significant iron ore deposits formed approximately 2.3 billion years ago under low-oxygen conditions, have recently gained attention as potential geological sources for evaluating hydrogen (H₂) production. BIFs are characterized by high concentrations of iron oxide (20 to 40 wt.

The synthesis of coal bottom ash-induced zeolite (Si-Al material) has been widely reported; however, the selective recovery of the three main elements, viz., Si, Al, and Fe, from coal bottom ash for the synthesis of reactive adsorbents has not yet been reported. In this study, we separated the magnetic and non-magnetic fractions of coal bottom ash to selectively recover Fe and Si-Al for synthesizing nanoscale zero-valent iron@zeolite (NZVI@ZBA) composites with uniform formation of Fe(0) nanoparticles on the ZBA surface.
