Background: Disease stage in patients with chronic hepatitis C was assessed by both peritoneoscopy and histology and correlated with responses to interferon therapy.
Methods: The subjects were 105 patients with chronic hepatitis C treated with interferon who were classified into 28 sustained responders, 34 transient responders, and 43 nonresponders according to alanine aminotransferase normalization. The influence of various patient's characteristics on responses to interferon therapy was investigated by multivariate analysis.
Results: Patients were categorized into 21 patients who exhibited a "smooth liver" on peritoneoscopy and did not demonstrate histologic bridging fibrosis (group I) and 84 patients who exhibited a "granular" or "nodular liver" on peritoneoscopy and/or had histologic bridging fibrosis (group II). Multivariate analysis showed that genotype 2a/2b (p = .0002), low viremia (p = .0048), and early disease stage (group I) (p = .0290) were significant independent factors contributing to sustained response, and that early disease stage (group I) (p = .0010) and genotype 2a/2b (p = .0085) were those contributing to sustained or transient response. Neither peritoneoscopic nor histologic findings alone were a significant factor influencing responses to interferon therapy.
Conclusion: Disease stage assessed by both peritoneoscopic and histologic findings may serve as a reliable marker for predicting responses to interferon therapy in chronic hepatitis C.

Introduction: Pediatric liver transplantation provides substantial survival benefit. An emphasis on value-based practices has become a central theme in many surgical fields, but have not been well-studied in pediatric transplantation. Given an increasing focus on optimizing outcomes while containing costs, defining value in pediatric liver transplantation warrants investigation.

Introduction: The mortality rate among Human immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) who have started antiretroviral therapy (ART) continues to be increased in resource-limited countries, despite a decline in developed nations. Furthermore, research within this age group is limited and has not previously been conducted in the study area. Consequently, this study aimed to determine the incidence of mortality and its predictors among HIV-positive children who have been receiving ART at public health facilities in West Wollega.

Background: Patients with end-stage kidney disease often prefer home-based dialysis due to higher self-efficacy, which relates to improved medical treatment adherence. Kidney transplantation (KT) success depends on adhering to immunosuppressive medication post-transplant.
Objectives: To investigate whether adherence post-kidney transplantation (KT) and patients' attitudes toward immunosuppression were influenced by their prior dialysis type modality.
Objective: To clarify the screening behavior and influencing factors of females with breast cancer and cervical cancer in suburban areas and to provide a scientific basis for the subsequent implementation of targeted health education, intervention measures and the formulation of relevant policies.
Methods: This study used a multi-stage stratified random sampling method to select 4, 000 women in urban and rural areas of Beijing to analyze their behavior, basic situation, and influencing factors regarding cervical and breast cancer screening.
Results: The sample size of the final included valid analysis was 3861 people, and the screening rate was 27.
