Background: Absorbable intracanalicular collagen implants are used to attempt to determine if permanent closure of the tear drainage system will diminish or alleviate the signs and symptoms of dryness. The rate of swelling of the collagen implants was measured in vitro in this study.
Methods: Collagen implants were submersed in saline, Refresh Plus artificial tears or Tobrex antibiotic solution on a hanging drop microscope slide. The diameter of the collagen rod was measured over time using videotaping and image processing.
Results: The 0.3- and 0.4-mm diameter collagen implants swelled approximately 55% to 65% in Unisol 4 Preservative Free saline and Refresh Plus artificial tear solution, with the majority of the swelling occurring over the first 30 minutes. The 0.4-mm diameter implants took slightly longer to reach the fully swollen state than did the 0.3-mm implants. They swelled somewhat less in Tobrex Ophthalmic Solution.
Conclusions: Collagen implants swell approximately 60%, with the majority of the swelling occurring in the first 30 minutes. Thus, it will take approximately 30 minutes after insertion of the implants for the full occlusive effect to occur.

Unlabelled: Peri-implantitis (PI) is an inflammatory disease that affects supportive tissues around dental implants, and its progression eventually leads to bone loss and implant failure. However, PI effects may be different based on the presence or absence of adjacent teeth.
Objective: To investigate the differences in bone loss and inflammation between implants placed adjacent to a tooth or edentulous area in a ligature-induced PI model.

Articular cartilage has a limited regenerative capacity, resulting in poor spontaneous healing of damaged tissue. Despite various scientific efforts to enhance cartilage repair, no single method has yielded satisfactory results. With rising drug development costs, drug repositioning has emerged as a viable alternative.

Tissue engineering and cartilage transplantation constitute an evolving field in the treatment of osteoarthritis, with therapeutic and clinical promise shown in autologous chondrocyte implantation. The aim of this systematic review is to explore current clinical trials that utilized autologous chondrocyte transplantation (ACT) and assess its efficacy in the treatment of osteoarthritis. PubMed, Ovid MEDLINE, and Google-Scholar (pages 1-20) were searched up until February 2023.

Bone tissue engineering is a technique that simulates the bone tissue microenvironment by utilizing cells, tissue scaffolds, and growth factors. The collagen hydrogel is a three-dimensional network bionic material that has properties and structures comparable to those of the extracellular matrix (ECM), making it an ideal scaffold and drug delivery system for tissue engineering. The clinical applications of this material are restricted due to its low mechanical strength.

Implantation of inflatable penile prosthesis should be considered as a definitive treatment of erectile dysfunction. However, the sole procedure might not allow for optimal dimensional and functional outcomes. The aim of this study was to systematically review the literature and present the findings on the optimal choice of perioperative methods, surgical techniques, and pharmacotherapy to improve penile length, curvature, and erectile function.
