Objective: The objective of this study is to present cases of infectious mononucleosis syndromes (i.m.) with dual rises in antibodies towards Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and cytomegalovirus (CMV).

Patients And Methods: A prospective study of 49 children that fulfilled Sumaya's clinical criteria was carried out.

Results: Fifteen cases of i.m. were serologically positive for EBV, 12 for CMV, 2 for toxoplasma and 10 were serologically negative. The other ten had dual antibody rises to EBV and CMV. The symptoms were similar in the different groups. Significant differences were found only for the age at the time of presentation where below 4 years of age i.m. is rarely due to EBV (p < 0.01). Analytically, only elevated serum transaminase concentrations suggested the etiology of EBV (p < 0.05). Although i.m. with dual antibody rises towards EBV and CMV are more similar to cases due to EBV, they present characteristics from both viruses.

Conclusions: 1. There are i.m. with dual antibody rises to EBV and CMV 2. The meaning still remains unknown, but there are two hypotheses: coinfection or "endogenous reinfection". 3. Cases of EBV-i.m. and CMV-i.m. are clinically similar, except at the age of presentation and the rising of serum transaminase concentrations.

Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, The Affiliated People's Hospital of Ningbo University, Yinzhou People's Hospital, Ningbo, Zhejiang, 315040, People's Republic of China.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the impact of herpesvirus detection by metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) on lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs) patients' lung microbiome composition and prognosis.

Patients And Methods: We initially enrolled 234 hospitalized patients with LRTIs who underwent BALF mNGS between February 2022 and May 2023. The study analyzed the clinical manifestations and the pulmonary microbial composition between herpesvirus detection (HD) and non-herpesvirus detection (non-HD) group.

Background: In vivo T-cell depletion with antithymocyte globulin (ATG), especially at high-doses has been shown to be associated with increased incidence of infections after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). However, it remains unclear whether ATG, even at low-doses increases the risk of posttransplant infections in the high-risk HSCT setting.

Patients And Methods: We conducted a single-center retrospective study of viral and fungal infections early after transplantation, using the data from 82 patients with hematological malignancies.

This systematic review assesses and compares the presence and relative abundance of periodontal pathogens, human herpesviruses (HHVs), and fungi in subgingival and/or saliva samples from pediatric subjects (≤18 years of age) with periodontally healthy status and with gingivitis and/or periodontitis. The study protocol was conducted under the PRISMA statement and registered on PROSPERO (CRD42024593007). Data from seven studies were descriptively analyzed and qualitatively assessed through the ROBINS-1 and JBI tools.

Introduction: The envelope proteins syncytin-1 and pHERV-W from the Human Endogenous Retroviral family 'W' (HERV-W) have been identified as potential risk factors in multiple sclerosis (MS). This study aims to evaluate both humoral and cell-mediated immune response to antigenic peptides derived from these proteins across different clinical forms and inflammatory phases of MS.

Methods: Indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was employed to measure immunoglobulin G (IgG) responses to syncytin-1 and pHERV-W peptides in MS patients.

Purpose: This multicenter study aimed to investigate the clinical characteristics and factors associated with specific viral pathogens in patients with acute retinal necrosis (ARN).

Methods: A retrospective multicenter cohort study included ARN patients who underwent aqueous or vitreous polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing. Multivariable mixed-effects Poisson regression was used to identify factors associated with viral pathogens.
