In vitro relative cytotoxicity (IC ()/IC () of ()-3-(4'-methylbenzylidene)-4-chromanone () towards human Molt 4/C8 and CEM T-lymphocytes showed a >50-fold increase in comparison to those of the respective tetralone derivative (). On the other hand, such an increase was not observed in the analogous 4-OCH ( and ) derivatives. In order to study whether thiol reactivity-as a possible basis of the mechanism of action-correlates with the observed cytotoxicities, the kinetics of the non-enzyme catalyzed reactions with reduced glutathione (GSH) and N-acetylcysteine (NAC) of and were investigated.

Intrinsically disordered proteins can bind via the formation of highly disordered protein complexes without the formation of three-dimensional structure. Most naturally occurring proteins are levorotatory (L)-that is, made up only of L-amino acids-imprinting molecular structure and communication with stereochemistry. By contrast, their mirror-image dextrorotatory (D)-amino acids are rare in nature.

When multiple reaction steps occur before thermal equilibration, kinetic energy from one reaction step can influence overall product distributions in ways that are not well predicted by transition state theory. An understanding of how the structural features of mechanophores, such as substitutions, affect reactivity, product distribution, and the extent of dynamic effects in the mechanochemical manifolds is necessary for designing chemical reactions and responsive materials. We synthesized two tetrafluorinated [4]-ladderanes with fluorination on different rungs and found that the fluorination pattern influenced the force sensitivity and stereochemical distribution of products in the mechanochemistry of these fluorinated ladderanes.

Fargesin is an important bioactive furofuran lignan isolated from different plant species. Despite presenting potent biological activities, its stereochemical characterization has relied mostly on empirical correlations of optical rotation, an approach considered risky that commonly leads to misassignments and error propagation. Additionally, the enantiomeric purity of fargesin isolates used for biological assays has not been previously investigated.
