The role of macrophages remains incompletely understood in kidney injury and repair. Their plasticity offers an opportunity to polarize them towards mediating injury resolution in both native and transplanted kidneys undergoing ischemia and/or rejection. Here, we show that infiltrating kidney macrophages augmented their AIF-1 expression after injury.

Given the fact that carbon quantum dots (CQDs) have been commercially produced in quantities, it is inevitable to make their ways into environment and interact closely with the public. Even though CQDs in the environment have been reported to damage the central nervous system, the underlying mechanisms of neurotoxic effects of CQDs following respiratory exposure is still not clear. Intranasal instilled CQDs, mimicking respiratory exposure, induces neurobehavioral impairments associated with neuronal cell death of ferroptosis and disulfidptosis that is regulated by metabolic reprogramming of glutathione and cysteine pathways in the cortex and hippocampus where CQDs were hardly accumulated.

Selective inhibitors that target cyclin dependent kinases 4 and 6 (CDK4/6i) are FDA approved for treatment of a subset of breast cancers and are being evaluated in numerous clinical trials for other cancers. Despite this advance, a subset of tumors are intrinsically resistant to these drugs and acquired resistance is nearly inevitable. Recent mechanistic evidence suggests that in addition to stalling the cell cycle, the anti-tumor effects of CDK4/6i involve the induction of chromosomal instability (CIN).
