Important complications after lung surgery are alveolar hypoventilation and post-operative haemorrhage. Measures to prevent the first are intermittent PEEP-aerosol respiration and thorough bronchial toilet. The diagnosis and management of postoperative haemorrhage are outlined. Cardiorepiratory failures may be prevented in most cases.
