The ultrastructure of the respiratory passages epithelium of children, adolescents and older adults suffering from repeated or chronic respiratory disease was studied in the material obtained as a small excision during bronchoscopy. The findings were classified into 4 groups according to the character of the ultrastructural changes found in the epithelium. In large bronchi was found: I--a completely unaltered pseudostratified columnar ciliated epithelium, II--a pseudostratified columnar epithelium with various signs of pathological alteration, III--an altered pseudostratified columnar epithelium with first ultrastructural signs of the development of squamous metaplasia, IV--a developed stratified squamous epithelium. In our opinion, in the respiratory passages of children and adolescents, even if they suffer from repeated respiratory diseases, the pseudostratiified ciliated epithelium persists however damaged to various degree. These patients were classified into the second or at most into the third group. The observation of fully developed squamous metaplasia is reserved to older patients with longer history of chronic respiratory disease.

Previous studies have suggested that systemic viral infections may increase risks of dementia. Whether this holds true for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus infections is unknown. Determining this is important for anticipating the potential future incidence of dementia.

Purpose Of The Review: Accidental autoerotic death, more commonly known as "autoerotic asphyxia," is an extreme paraphilic behavior wherein individuals induce cerebral hypoxia during self-stimulated sexual activities, often by constricting the neck or obstructing respiratory passages. Data on accidental deaths caused by autoerotic play is very low because of the non-disclosure of the mode/circumstances of death or non-paralleled forensic systems in many countries. There is a high likelihood of coexisting mental disorders with such behavior.

Background: No treatments exist for apathy in people with frontotemporal dementia. Previously, in a randomised double-blind, placebo-controlled, dose-finding study, intranasal oxytocin administration in people with frontotemporal dementia improved apathy ratings on the Neuropsychiatric Inventory over 1 week and, in a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover study, a single dose of 72 IU oxytocin increased blood-oxygen-level-dependent signal in limbic brain regions. We aimed to determine whether longer treatment with oxytocin improves apathy in people with frontotemporal dementia.

Background: Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) causes severe respiratory illness in humans and currently lacks an approved vaccine. The Newcastle disease virus (NDV) vector is a well-established, safe, and effective platform for vaccine development. With recent advancements in stabilizing coronavirus spike proteins to enhance their antigenicity, this study aimed to determine whether modifications to the MERS-CoV spike protein could improve its presentation on NDV particles, allowing the resulting virus to be used as an inactivated vaccine.

The pathogenic potential of airborne particles carrying the SARS-CoV-2 viral genome was examined by considering the size distribution of airborne particles at given distances from the respiratory zone of an infected patient after coughing or sneezing with a focus on time, temperature, and relative humidity. The results show an association between the size distribution of airborne particles, particularly PM and PM, and the presence of viral genome in different stations affected by the distance from the respiratory zone and the passage of time. The correlation with time was strong with all the dependent factors except PM.
