Under study were immunological indices--the reaction of microprecipitation (tumor and embryonal antigens) and HRDT (tumor and tuberculine antigens) in 305 patients with cancer of the uterine cervix. It was found that most patients showed impaired immune responses: an increased number of persons with specific antibodies circulating in blood serum and increased hypersensitivity of of delayed type. The percentage of positive reactions of microprecipitation and HRDT increases as the tumor spreads. The methods of combined therapy generally improve immunological indices, however, the process starts 1-3 years following the treatment.

The risk of donor-acquired allergy in solid organ transplant recipients: a systematic review.

Ann Allergy Asthma Immunol

January 2025

Center for Drug Safety and Immunology, Vanderbilt University Medical Centre, Nashville, Tennessee, USA; Institute for Immunology and Infectious Diseases, Murdoch University, Murdoch, Western Australia, Australia.

Background: Donor acquired allergy (DAA) occurs when donors transfer their allergies to recipients through solid organ transplant (SOT). However, the risk of DAA in recipients of organs from allergic donors has not been systematically characterized.

Objective: We sought to synthesize the available evidence on the risk of DAA in SOT recipients.

Neuroinvasive flaviviruses such as tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) and West Nile virus (WNV) are widely distributed in continental Croatian regions. We analyzed clinical characteristics, laboratory parameters, and molecular epidemiology of neuroinvasive flavivirus infections in eastern Croatia. A total of 43 patients with confirmed flavivirus infection hospitalized from 2017 to 2023 were included in the study.

: Serotonin and the serotonin transporter (SERT) may have a multifaceted, but not fully understood, role in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and its impact on mental health in this group of patients. This study aimed to investigate changes in serotonin and the serotonin transporter (SERT) and their association with depressive and insomnia symptoms. : This study included 76 participants (OSA group: = 36, control group (CG): = 40) who underwent polysomnography, while venous blood samples (evening and morning) were analyzed for serotonin and the SERT using ELISA.

Hemoglobin-based oxygen carriers have been developed to compensate the needs of blood for transfusions. Most of them were based on intracellular hemoglobin extracted from bovine or human blood, but unfortunately, this type of hemoglobin did not pass through the last steps of clinical trials. In this context, HEMARINA discovered a natural extracellular hemoglobin, possessing several advantages avoiding intracellular hemoglobin-related side effects.

Genetic and Immunological Insights into Tick-Bite Hypersensitivity and Alpha-Gal Syndrome: A Case Study Approach.

Int J Mol Sci

January 2025

Tick-bite hypersensitivity encompasses a range of clinical manifestations, from localized allergic reactions to systemic conditions like alpha-gal syndrome (AGS), an IgE-mediated allergy to galactose-α-1,3-galactose (α-Gal). This study investigated the clinical, molecular, immunological, and genetic features of two hypersensitivity cases. Two cases were analyzed: a 30-year-old woman with fixed drug reaction (FDR)-like hypersensitivity and a 10-year-old girl with AGS exhibiting borderline α-Gal-specific IgE.
