Preparation and characterization of Levan composite film incorporating vanillin for use as a potential edible coating for peony seed oil.

Int J Biol Macromol

February 2025

School of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Tianjin University, Tianjin 300350, PR China. Electronic address:

The study prepared an edible packaging material for peony seed oil by adding natural antioxidant vanillin to a microbial Levan composite film. The presence of highly branched Levan, containing polyhydroxyl groups, significantly enhanced the maximum tension (26.57 N), tensile strength (36.

20-hydroxyecdysone (20E), a natural polyhydroxylated steroid, has exhibited anti-inflammatory effects across various diseases. This study investigates the potential connection between 20E's anti-inflammatory properties and the RNA-binding protein Lin28b, which is notably upregulated in TNF-α-stimulated endothelial cells. Herein, we discovered that 20E can selectively downregulate Lin28b expression without affecting its paralog Lin28a.

Existing Forms of Notoginsenoside R in Rats and Their Potential Bioactivities.

J Agric Food Chem

December 2024

State Key Laboratory of Natural and Biomimetic Drugs, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Peking University, Beijing 100191, China.

Article Synopsis
  • - Notoginsenoside R (NG-R), a key saponin in a medicinal plant, was analyzed using advanced UHPLC-ESI-Q-TOF-MS/MS techniques to identify its various forms and distribution in rats, resulting in the detection of 105 metabolites, including 89 new ones.
  • - The study proposed a new fragmentation pathway for protopanaxatriol (PPT) and revealed novel metabolic reactions for NG-R, such as polyhydroxylation and glucuronidation, with significant metabolite accumulation observed in various organs.
  • - Predictive analyses suggested 48 metabolites may have therapeutic effects on three diseases, with follow-up experiments confirming anti-tumor and anti-inflammatory properties in eight specific

(-)-Swainsonine is a polyhydroxylated indolizidine alkaloid with potent inhibitory activity against α-D-mannosidases. In this work, we successfully reconstituted swainsonine biosynthetic pathway both in vivo and in vitro. Our study unveiled a surprising epimerization mechanism involving an imine reductase (SwnN) and two non-heme iron and α-ketoglutarate-dependent oxygenases (SwnH2 and SwnH1).
