Adsorption of hemin and globin onto fibrous carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) that is commonly used in food industry was studied. The process of CMC saturation with hemin (and globin) was shown to depend on time and temperature. Constants for adsorption and the activation energy for the adsorption of globin were determined. A Langmuir-type hyperbolic adsorption was observed for globin, whereas the hemin adsorption on CMC was linear. Optimum conditions for globin isolation from hemoglobin solutions were found.

spectroscopic investigations during molecular redox processes provide unique insights into complex molecular structures and their transformations. Herein, a combination of a potentiodynamic method with spectroscopy has been employed to holistically investigate the structural transformations during Fe-redox (Fe ↔ Fe) of hemin vis á vis heme-proteins, myoglobin (Mb), hemoglobin (Hb) and cytochrome- (Cyt-). The UV-vis findings reveal the formation of hemozoin (≈heme-dimer), which can be selectively prevented a high concentration of strongly interacting ligands, histidine (the fifth coordinating ligand in the heme-based protein).

Article Synopsis
  • mTOR plays a crucial role in various cellular processes, including erythropoiesis, and consists of two complexes, mTORC1 and mTORC2, which have different functions and effects in signaling.
  • Previous research indicated that inhibiting mTORC1 with rapamycin affected early erythroid progenitor expansion and later stages of erythroid differentiation.
  • This study compared the effects of two inhibitors (AZD8055 and rapamycin) on erythroid differentiation in cell and mouse models, finding that both increased specific erythroid markers, with AZD8055 being more effective at suppressing cell proliferation and promoting mitochondrial clearance than rapamycin.

Background: Haemoglobin H (HbH) disease is caused by a disorder of α-globin synthesis, and it results in a wide range of clinical symptoms. M6A methylation modification may be one of the mechanisms of heterogeneity. Therefore, this article explored the role of methyltransferase like 16 (METTL16) in HbH disease.

Cell-free hemoglobin and hemin catalyzing triclosan oxidative coupling in plasma: A novel exogenous phenolic pollutants coupling pathway.

Previous studies reported that hemoprotein CYP450 catalyzed triclosan coupling is an "uncommon" metabolic pathway that may enhance toxicity, raising concerns about its environmental and health impacts. Hemoglobin, a notable hemoprotein, can catalyze endogenous phenolic amino acid tyrosine coupling reactions. Our study explored the feasibility of these coupling reactions for exogenous phenolic pollutants in plasma.

Hemoglobin (Hb) is effective inducer for lipid oxidation and protein-polyphenol interaction is a well-known phenomenon. The effects of the interaction of (-)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) with Hb on lipid oxidation were rarely elucidated. The detailed interaction between bovine Hb and EGCG was systematically explored by experimental and theoretical approaches, to illustrate the molecular mechanisms by which EGCG influenced the redox states and stability of Hb.
