HLX affects cell cycle and proliferation in AML cells via the JAK/STAT signaling pathway.

Oncol Lett

August 2020

Department of Hematology, Taizhou Hospital of Zhejiang, Wenzhou Medical College, Taizhou, Zhejiang 317000, P.R. China.

Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) is a class of malignant tumors derived from hematopoietic stem or progenitor cells. The H2.0-like homeobox gene (HLX) encodes transcription factors that function in promoting normal hematopoietic cell proliferation and tumor immunity.

Background: The rainforest is an important source of natural compounds with therapeutic properties. Although there are many anti-inflammatory and antineoplastic drugs available to the clinician, there is an ongoing need for new therapeutic drugs with fewer serious adverse effects.

Aim: To evaluate the in vitro cytotoxic effects of lupeol and casearin G on tumor cells, on phagocytic activity and nitric oxide (NO) production by blood mononuclear cells.

Astragaloside IV Downregulates β-Catenin in Rat Keratinocytes to Counter LiCl-Induced Inhibition of Proliferation and Migration.

Evid Based Complement Alternat Med

August 2012

Department of Dermatology, Yueyang Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shanghai 200437, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Re-epithelialization is essential for wound healing, and the traditional Chinese medicine Astragalus membranaceus has been historically used for treating ulcerated wounds, with its active compound identified as astragaloside IV (AS-IV).
  • This study utilized an in vitro model of ulcer-like wounds with cultured mouse keratinocytes to explore how AS-IV affects cell proliferation and migration, examining various assays to measure these effects.
  • Results showed that LiCl inhibited cell growth and movement while AS-IV treatment countered these effects by regulating the Wnt signaling pathway, specifically by down-regulating β-catenin, ultimately enhancing keratinocyte proliferation and migration essential for wound healing.

[Effect of immune response mediated by antigen-specific T cells on plaque stability in coronary heart disease].

Nan Fang Yi Ke Da Xue Xue Bao

July 2010

Department of Cardiology, Nanfang Hospital, Southern Medical University, Guangzhou 510515, China.

Objective: To investigate the effect of immune response mediated by antigen (oxidized low density lipoprotein, oxLDL)-specific T cells on plaque stability in coronary heart disease.

Methods: Twenty patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI), 34 with unstable angina pectoris (UAP), 27 with stable angina pectoris (SAP) and 22 control subjects were enrolled in this study. MTS/PMS colorimetric assay was used to measure the proliferative response of the T cells to stimulation to 5 microg/ml oxLDL and detect IFN-gamma concentration produced in the proliferative response.

Comparison of potency assays using different read-out systems and their suitability for quality control.

J Immunol Methods

August 2010

Analytical Development Biotech Products, Merck KGaA, Frankfurter Str. 250, Darmstadt, Germany.

In this study, three of the most commonly used non-radioactive read-out systems for bioassays, the tetrazolium salt MTS/PMS, the fluorescent dye Alamar Blue and the ATP bioluminescence assay were compared regarding their suitability for quality control purposes. In this regard, three different potency assays using murine CTLL-2, as well as human DiFi and Kit 225 cells were performed. No major differences regarding accuracy and precision were detected between the different read-out systems.
