Between 1986 and 1989, 190 patients (214 hips) with the diagnosis of osteoarthritis or posttraumatic arthritis underwent cemented Charnley total hip replacement surgeries via the biplane or single plane transtrochanteric approach. The technique of surgery was identical in every aspect except for the technique of the trochanteric osteotomy and reattachment. The results indicate that there was no significant difference in union rates between the 2 groups. Six (6.4%) patients in the biplane group and 7 (6.2%) patients in the single plane group had obvious evidence of nonunion at the 1-year evaluation. This study suggests no significant difference in union rate between a group of patients with biplane osteotomy and a closely paired group of patients with single plane osteotomy. Other equally important factors also may influence the rate of union of the trochanter in total hip arthroplasty.

Background And Aims: Open pyeloplasty in children is associated with considerable postoperative pain. The paravertebral block (PVB) is commonly performed to control postoperative pain in such surgeries. Erector spinae plane block (ESPB) has recently been described as effective in providing postoperative analgesia in pediatric abdominal surgeries.

Restricting the growth of sodium (Na) dendrites at the atomic level is the premise to enable both the stability and safety of sodium metal batteries (SMBs). Here, the universal synthesis of the fourth main group element (Sn, Ge, Pb) as single metal atoms anchored on graphene (Sn, Ge, Pb SAs/G) with sp hybridization for dendrite-free sodium metal anode is reported. The in situ real-time observation of Na growth on Sn SAs/G uncoils a kinetically uniform planar deposition at the atomic level for substantially suppressing the dendrite growth.

Regulating strategies for long persistent luminescence (LPL) are always in high demand. Herein, a series of coordination polymers (CPs) (SUST-Z1-Z4) are fabricated using 1,10-phenanthroline derivatives involving different substituents (─H, ─CH, ─Cl, and ─Br) as ligands, respectively. Crystallographic data demonstrate that these CPs adopt alternating arrangements of cadmium halide chains and π-conjugated ligands.

The positioning of the hydroxy group plays a crucial role in the coordination of Schiff bases with copper ions and their antibacterial effectiveness. This potential is an area of interest for future exploration, although no specific studies have been conducted. This study aims to reveal the significance of the positioning of the hydroxy group in the ability of the Schiff base to coordinate with copper ion and its antibacterial efficacy against E.

Background: Understanding midfoot joint kinetics is valuable for improved treatment of foot pathologies. Segmental foot kinetics cannot currently be obtained in a standard gait lab without the use of multiple force plates or a pedobarographic plate overlaid with a force plate due to the single ground reaction force (GRF) vector.
Research Question: Can an algorithm be created to distribute the GRF into multiple segmental vectors that will allow for calculation of accurate midfoot and ankle moments?
Methods: 20 pediatric subjects (10 typically developing, 10 with foot pathology) underwent multi-segment foot gait analysis using the Milwaukee Foot Model.
