Several novel phosphatidic acid derivatives of 3'-azido-3'-deoxythymidine and 2',3'-dideoxyinosine were synthesized, which contained dialkylphosphatidyl, dialkylthiophosphatidyl moieties, as well as diacylphosphatidyl moiety with either 14,14,14-trifluoro-12-oxatetradecanoyl or natural acyl residues inherent in egg yolk phosphatidylcholine. Diacylphosphatidyl derivatives of glycyrrhetinic acid were also prepared. All the synthesized compounds exhibited significant anti-HIV activity. The glycyrrhetinic acid derivatives are of special interest because of their low toxicity and a supposedly different mechanism of action.

As natural agonists of the stimulator of interferon genes (STING) protein, cyclic dinucleotides (CDNs) can activate the STING pathway, leading to the expression of type I interferons and various cytokines. Efficient activation of the STING pathway in antigen-presenting cells (APCs) and tumor cells is crucial for antitumor immune response. Tumor-derived exosomes can be effectively internalized by APCs and tumor cells and have excellent potential to deliver CDNs to the cytoplasm of APCs and tumor cells.

Five previously unreported 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) derivatives, including chinenfurfurals A () and B () as 5-HMF-citric acid hybrids and chinenfurfurals C-E (-) as 5-HMF oligomers, as well as four known analogues (-), were isolated from the fruits of a well-known Chinese herbal species . The structures of these furfural compounds were established by detailed analyses of spectroscopic data especially HRMS and NMR, and it is the first report of furfural type constituents from the title species. The anti-inflammatory property of them was further evaluated by testing their inhibition against the production of nitric oxide in lipopolysaccharide-activated murine RAW264.

This work describes the identification, occurrence, and mechanism of formation of 1-acetyl-β-carbolines (1-acetyl-βCs) that result from the reaction of l-tryptophan with the α-dicarbonyl compound methylglyoxal. Two β-carbolines are characterized as 1-acetyl-β-carboline (AβC) and 1-acetyl-β-carboline-3-carboxylic acid (AβC-COOH).
