We have isolated two novel cDNAs encoding the transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta) type II receptor (TGF-beta IIR), termed TGF-beta IIR alpha and TGF-beta IIR beta 1 from a human fetal liver library. They have unique nucleotide (nt) sequences, compared with the reported TGF-beta IIR sequence, at the 5' end. Southern blot analysis using probes from each clone detected the specific genomic DNA fragments. RT-PCR analysis revealed a distinct pattern of expression for each isoform. These results indicated that TGF-beta IIR has heterogeneity in the structure, and the expression of TGF-beta IIR isoforms is differentially regulated. The heterogeneity of TGF-beta IIR molecules could be derived from alternative splicing and might elicit specific TGF-beta receptor functions.

Background: Fabry nephropathy is a consequence of the deposition of globotriaosylceramide, caused by deficient GLA enzyme activity in all types of kidney cells. These deposits are perceived as damage signals leading to activation of inflammation resulting in renal fibrosis. There are few studies related to immunophenotype characterization of the renal infiltrate in kidneys in patients with Fabry disease and its relationship to mechanisms of fibrosis.

Objective: To observe the efficacy of moxibustion in the treatment of chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and explore the effects on gut microbiota and metabolic profiles.
Methods: Forty-eight male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to control group (Con), CFS model group (Mod, established by multiple chronic stress for 35 d), MoxA group (CFS model with moxibustion Shenque (CV8) and Guanyuan (CV4), 10 min/d, 28 d) and MoxB group (CFS model with moxibustion Zusanli (ST36), 10 min/d, 28 d). Open-field test (OFT) and Morris-water-maze test (MWMT) were determined for assessment the CFS model and the therapeutic effects of moxibustion.

Objective: To explore whether acupuncture combined with moxibustion could inhibit epithelialmesenchymal transition in Crohn's disease by affecting the transforming growth factor β 1 (TGF- β 1)/Smad3/Snail pathway.
Methods: Sixty-three patients with Crohn's disease were randomly divided into an observation group (31 cases) receiving moxibustion at 43 °C combined with acupuncture, and a control group (32 cases) receiving moxibustion at 37 °C combined with sham acupuncture using a random number table. Patients were treated for 12 weeks.

IGF-IIR activation regulates cardiac remodeling leading to apoptosis. Here, we identified the novel IGF-IIRα (150 KDa), a truncated IGF-IIR transcript enhances cardiac apoptosis under high-salt uptake in transgenic rat model. Echocardiographic analysis revealed decline in ejection fraction and fractional shortening percentage in IGF-IIRα (TG) rats.
