Continued sedation has important practical implications on overcoming the physical and psychic stress which in turn, has important practical implications on the well-being of patients in conditions of intensive care unit. It is the purpose of the study to assess the quality and characteristics of sustained sedation with constant propofol (Diprivan) and fentanyl infusion. As a result of the study the inference is reached that sedation with Diprivan and fentanyl, administered as constant infusion, lends itself readily to control, and what is more, it is free of noteworthy side effects. To secure permanent sedation it is necessary to adapt the infusional rate to the clinical signs in compliance with the concrete patient and individual needs.

Study Objective: To cover pediatric emergency physicians' off-hours, third-year pediatric residents in Israel are trained for unsupervised administration of emergency department (ED) dissociative and deep sedation. We assessed the frequency of critical sedation events associated with resident-performed sedations.

Background: The ventrolateral preoptic nucleus (VLPO) is a crucial regulator of sleep, and its neurons are implicated in both sleep-wake regulation and anesthesia-induced loss of consciousness. Propofol (PRO), a widely used intravenous anesthetic, modulates the activity of VLPO neurons, but the underlying mechanisms, particularly the role of dopaminergic receptors, remain unclear.
Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effects of PRO on NA (-) neurons in the VLPO and to determine the involvement of D1 and D2 dopaminergic receptors in mediating these effects.
