We propose circuits for the implementation of a programmable pulser for phase array transducers. These provide digital control of pulse timing and firing, plus the possibility of manual setting of exciting pulse nature (simple or double), width and amplitude. Matching to the probe is thus optimized while programming enables adaptation to various types of transducers.

In this study, an ultra-high-resolution acoustic microscopy system capable of non-destructively evaluating defects that may occur in thin film structures was fabricated. It is an integrated system of the control module, activation module, and data acquisition system, in which an integrated control software for controlling each module was developed. The control module includes the mechanical, control, and ultrasonic parts.

This paper demonstrates hybrid sub-aperture beamforming (SAB) with time-division multiplexing (TDM) for massive interconnect reduction in ultrasound imaging systems. A single-chip front-end system prototype has been fabricated in 180-nm HV BCD technology that combines 5×1 SAB with 8×1 TDM to efficiently reduce the number of receive signal interconnects by a factor of 40. The system includes on-chip high-voltage (HV) pulsers capable of generating unipolar pulses up to 70 V in transmit (TX) mode.

This work presents a prototype system based on a multichannel receiving (RX) integrated circuit (IC) for contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) imaging. The RX IC is implemented in a 40-nm low-voltage CMOS technology and is designed to interface to a capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducer array. To enable a direct connection of the RX electronics to the transducer, an analog multiplexer with on-chip protection circuitry is developed.

Many experiments in the physical sciences require high temporal resolution on multiple control channels and can benefit from conditional logic control of the experimental sequence patterns. We present LithPulser, a field programmable gate array (FPGA) based open-source digital pulser solution with 1 ns time resolution on 14 digital output channels. The pulser is set up on the affordable Xilinx Zynq-7010 FPGA in the form of the Red Pitaya STEMlab board 125-10.

A 2D array is also a versatile tool for various applications such as 3D imaging, high-intensity focused ultrasound, particle manipulation, and pattern generation. However, building a 2D system involves complicated technologies: fabricating a 2D transducer array, developing a pitch-matched ASIC, and interconnecting the transducer and the ASIC.
