An in vivo quantitative analysis of the fit of Nobel Biocare implant superstructures.

Loss of osseointegration of implant fixtures and mechanical failure of superstructures have been attributed to failure to achieve a passive fit between the superstructure and the transmucosal abutment (TMA). The fit of five mandibular superstructures, fabricated on Nobel Biocare implants, was investigated in vivo, using a polyvinyl siloxane impression material to record the discrepancies. Following sectioning of the impressions, the vertical and horizontal discrepancies were analysed at four locations using a travelling microscope. The discrepancies obtained were measured both when the gold cylinder screws were maximally tightened by hand and when tightened with a torque driver to the recommended value of 10 Ncm. The vertical discrepancies for the hand tightened abutments ranged from 0 micron to 63 microns with a mean of 14 microns. In the mechanically tightened group, the vertical discrepancies ranged from 0 micron to 130 microns with a mean of 21 microns. The horizontal discrepancies for the mechanically tightened abutments ranged from 0 micron to 140 microns with a mean of 31 microns, compared with a mean of 46 microns and range of 0 micron to 113 microns, for the hand-tightened abutments. A close fit was seldom achieved. It is concluded that considerable discrepancies existed around superstructures that had been judged to have a clinically acceptable fit. These were reduced in the vertical direction by hand tightening of the gold screws.

We incorporated Espaloma forcefield parameterization into MoSDeF tools for performing molecular dynamics simulations of organic molecules with HOOMD-Blue. We compared equilibrium morphologies predicted for perylene and poly-3-hexylthiophene (P3HT) with the ESP-UA forcefield in the present work against prior work using the OPLS-UA forcefield. We found that, after resolving the chemical ambiguities in molecular topologies, ESP-UA is similar to GAFF.

Silk fibroin, known for its biocompatibility and biodegradability, holds significant promise for biomedical applications, particularly in drug delivery systems. The precise fabrication of silk fibroin particles, specifically those ranging from tens of nanometres to hundreds of microns, is critical for these uses. This study introduces elliptical vibration micro-turning as a method for producing silk fibroin particles in the form of cutting chips to serve as carriers for drug delivery systems.

A step towards understanding plastic complexity: Antimony speciation in consumer plastics and synthetic textiles revealed by XAS.

We identified the antimony species present in a wide variety of plastic samples by X ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) at the Sb L-edge. The samples contained different concentrations of antimony (Sb), ranging from PET bottles in which Sb compounds are used as catalysts, with concentrations around 300 mg/kg, to electrical equipment in which the element is used as a flame retardant, with concentrations of several tens of thousands of mg/kg. Although the shape of the spectra at the L-edge is quite similar for all Sb reference materials, we were able to identify antimony glycolate or acetate in PET bottles, bound organic Sb in c-PET trays and senarmontite in electrical materials as the main Sb components.

Effect of Temperature on Condensed State Structure and Conductivity Characteristics of Micron-Level Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene Films.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

State Key Laboratory of Alternate Electrical Power System with Renewable Energy Sources, North China Electric Power University, Beijing 102206, China.

Polymer-based dielectric films are increasingly demanded for devices under high electric fields used in new energy vehicles, photovoltaic grid connections, oil and gas exploration, and aerospace. However, leakage current is one of the significant factors limiting the improvement of the insulation performance. This paper tested the leakage current and condensed state structure characteristics of biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) films and obtained the nonlinear characteristics of leakage current of BOPP films in the range of 40-440 V/μm and 40-110 °C.

Field switching of microfabricated metamagnetic FeRh MRI contrast agents.

Laboratory of Functional and Molecular Imaging, National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD, 20892, USA.

In a step towards generating switchable MRI cellular labels, we demonstrate in-situ field switching of micron scale metamagnetic Iron-Rhodium (FeRh) thin film particles. A thin-film (200 nm) FeRh sample was fabricated and patterned into an array of progressively smaller squares with sizes ranging from 500 μm down to 1 μm. The large first order phase change from antiferromagnetic to ferromagnetic state was characterized using vibrating sample magnetometry, magnetic force microscopy, and MRI.
