We investigated serum concentrations of specific inflammatory parameters in patients with significant carotid artery stenosis (CAS) of 50-99%, with an additional focus on patients with moderate stenosis (50-69%), in terms of both symptomatic status and plaque morphology, to determine whether there are certain parameters that can be associated with plaque instability before the progression of CAS to a high degree. The study included 119 CAS patients, 29 of whom had moderate stenosis, and 46 controls. Ultrasonography of the carotid arteries was performed using color flow Doppler and B-mode duplex ultrasound, and serum inflammatory parameters were measured using commercially available enzyme immunoassays.

Background: Thrombolytic agents and anticoagulants are the two classes of medication used in the treatment of acute pulmonary embolism (PE). There is continuous renewal and iteration of thrombolytic agents, and the efficacy and adverse effects of different agents have different effects on PE due to their different mechanisms of action.
Objectives: The aim of the study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of different thrombolytic agents in the treatment of all types of acute PE: hemodynamically unstable PE (massive PE) and hemodynamically stable PE (submassive PE and low-risk PE), using a network meta-analysis.

The buildup of lipids, cholesterol, and other substances in and on the walls of the arteries is known as atherosclerosis and deposition is known as atherosclerotic plaque. Urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPA) has multiple roles in the atherosclerotic plaque formation and even work simultaneously in making the atherosclerotic plaque unstable. Extracellular matrix plays a major role in the plaque remodeling and rapture.

A 66-year-old Japanese woman developed pulseless electrical activity following an acute pulmonary embolism and was treated with thrombolytic therapy. She remained hemodynamically unstable and therefore underwent extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). While receiving treatment with ECMO, blood clots induced by endobronchial hemorrhage caused tracheobronchial airway obstruction, leading to ventilatory defect.

Diffuse alveolar hemorrhage (DAH) is one of the most serious clinical complications of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The prevalence of DAH is reported to range from 1 to 5%, but while DAH is considered a rare complication there is a reported 50-80% mortality. There is at present no proven effective treatment for DAH and the therapeutics that have been tested have significant side effects.
