[Diving goiter. Apropos of 139 cases].

Between 1976 and 1994, 139 cases of diving goiter were operated. Hyperthyroidism is a factor in compression. Morbidity is low for surgery for diving goiters, but increases if performed in emergency situations. Cervicotomy was used alone in more than 99% of the cases.

Background: The purpose of the study was to analyze and discuss the demographic, clinical, radiological, therapeutic and postoperative findings of the Cervico-mediastinal goiters (CMG) treated through a cervical approach admitted in the ENT department of Ibn Rochd university hospital, Casablanca, Morocco between January 2014 and January 2020.

Materiels And Methods: Over a period of 6 years, 116 patients underwent surgical treatment for CMG. It was defined as a goiter extending below the plane of superior thoracic aperture on CT scan.

Hiccups differential diagnosis is a challenging one often being inconclusive and sometimes attributed to malignancies, and so of extreme importance to an internist. Seventy-five-year-old man with history of alcohol abuse, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia presented to the emergency department after having initiated diarrhea, hiccups, and vomiting for 4 days. Physical examination revealed signs of dehydration and persistent hiccups at rest.

Diving goitres can descend the cervical region expanding directly into the thoracic cavity. In most cases, diving goitres extend into the anterosuperior compartment, but they may also extend behind the trachea. We herein present a case of a male patient with retrotracheal goitre and history of left thyroid lobectomy and median sternotomy for thoracic aortic aneurysm repair with graft placement.

[Multinodular diving goiters: 100 cases in Morocco].

Objective: To assess 100 cases of multinodular diving goiters, the authors review the literature to compare the epidemiology, clinical pictures, additional required work-up, treatments, complications, and sequelae.

Method: Records of 100 cases of multinodular diving goiters were collected in the surgical department of the Military Hospital of Marrakesh in Morocco from 1991 through 2004. They accounted for 6% of all goiters.
