Botulinum neurotoxins (BoNT) are established biopharmaceuticals for neuromuscular and secretory conditions based on their ability to block neurotransmitter release from neurons by proteolyzing specific soluble N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor attachment protein receptor (SNARE) proteins. Recently, a mutant catalytic domain of serotype E (LC/E) exhibiting 16 mutations was reported to cleave the phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN). This molecule represents an attractive new target in neurons as several reports support PTEN knockdown as a strategy to stimulate axonal regeneration after injury.

Gliomas constitute the most prevalent primary central nervous system tumors, often characterized by complex metabolic profile, genomic instability, and aggressiveness, leading to frequent relapse and high mortality rates. Traditional treatments are commonly ineffective because of gliomas increased heterogeneity, invasive characteristics and resistance to chemotherapy. Among several pathways affecting cellular homeostasis, cuproptosis has recently emerged as a novel type of programmed cell death, triggered by accumulation of copper ions.

Aging proceeds with the accumulation of senescent cells in multiple organs. These cells exhibit increased size compared to young cells, which promotes further senescence and age-related diseases. Currently, the molecular mechanism behind the maintenance of such huge cell architecture undergoing senescence remains poorly understood.

Solid-state fermentation of lignocellulosic waste to produce feed protein is a means of realising solid waste. However, low efficiency and susceptibility to microbial contamination remain significant challenges in feed protein production through room-temperature solid-state fermentation. In this study, thermophilic microbiomes were enriched.
