The role of bioassays in ensuring the safety and efficacy of medicines produced by biotechnology intended for human use is under continuous review. It is a complex area, in which the rapid scientific and technological advances have been accompanied, more or less synchronously, by novel clinical applications. The need to match the rapidity of these developments with the necessarily more cautious regulatory procedures for licensing and controlling medicines in the pharmaceutical marketplace has produced an area of active debate. This article reviews the debate and its practical consequences, while maintaining the pre-eminence of the underlying scientific values.

While aging inevitably changes our skin, this complex biological process involves much more than just getting older. As the body's largest organ, the skin constantly safeguards us from harmful environmental pathogens and plays a key role in overall well-being. This study investigated the development and evaluation of a nanogel containing Rosa damascena essential oil for its potential anti-aging properties.

The first step in chloroplast de novo fatty acid synthesis is catalysed by acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACCase). As the rate-limiting step for this pathway, ACCase is subject to both positive and negative regulation. In this study, we identify a Chlamydomonas homologue of the plant carboxyltransferase interactor 1 (CrCTI1) and show that this protein interacts with the Chlamydomonas α-carboxyltransferase (Crα-CT) subunit of the ACCase by yeast two-hybrid protein-protein interaction assay.

Introduction: Brucellosis, a significant zoonotic infectious disease, poses a global health threat. Accurate and efficient diagnosis is crucial for prevention, control, and treatment of brucellosis. VirB proteins, components of the Type IV secretion system (T4SS) in , play a pivotal role in bacterial virulence and pathogenesis but have been understudied for their diagnostic potential.

Background: PR/SET domain 16 (PRDM16) is an important transcription factor in the differentiation process of brown adipocytes, which plays an important role in maintaining the special morphological characteristics and cellular function of brown adipocytes. However, the role of PRDM16 in human colorectal cancer (CRC) is currently unknown.
Methods: Methylation sequencing, methylation-specific PCR (MSP), multiple bioinformatics analyses, Co-Immunoprecipitation (Co-IP) assay and Immunofluorescence (IF) staining, in vitro and in vivo functional experiments were performed to study the biological role of PRDM16 in CRC progression.

Background: Mitral valve prolapse (MVP) is a common cardiac valvular anomaly that can be caused by mutations in genes of various biological pathways. Individuals of three generations of a kindred presented with apparently dominant heredity of isolated MVP.
Methods: Clinical evaluation and echocardiography for all complying family members (n=13).
