[Endobronchial stenoses in Wegener's granulomatosis].

Rev Mal Respir

Clinique de Pneumologie, CHU Grenoble.

Published: November 1996

The authors describe a case of a patient suffering from Wegener's disease with endobronchial manifestations which progressively developed tracheal stenosis which was not accessible to the usual immunodepressive therapy. Repeated endobronchial dilatation using a balloon introduced via supple fibroscope was carried out with success. The balloon dilatation seems a useful alternative approach to other therapies such as surgery. It is a non-aggressive technique which is easily performed and has no complications.

  • Biopsy tools are crucial for accurate bronchoscopic diagnoses, and cryobiopsy has gained attention for its effectiveness in identifying thoracic diseases.
  • Cryobiopsy has shown higher diagnostic yields compared to traditional forceps biopsies, thanks to its ability to collect larger tissue samples through freezing.
  • Despite some risk of complications, the improved diagnostic accuracy makes cryobiopsy a valuable method for evaluating conditions related to the lungs and surrounding areas.
