The indigenous plasmids, pPSR1 and pPSR5, were each shown to confer resistance to ultraviolet light (UV) in Pseudomonas syringae (Ps) pv. syringae FF5. The UV-resistance (UVR) determinant was subcloned from a cosmid library of pPSR1, and sequence analysis revealed the presence of two ORFs, designated rulAB which are homologous to the Escherichia coli umuDC mutagenic DNA repair systems and other plasmid-encoded UVR operons. Amino acid (aa) alignments indicated that RulAB are most closely related to the RumAB proteins from plasmid R391, sharing 40.5% and 48.6% aa identity with RumA and RumB, respectively. UV sensitivity assays with the cloned rulAB genes indicated that the expression of UVR in Ps required a functional recA gene.

Sticker-type transparent antireflective film (STAF) is applied to perovskite solar cells (PSCs) to reduce the reflection and improve the light-trapping ability of PSCs. However, the development of STAF is hindered by many factors, such as expensive materials, low actual service life, unsatisfactory antireflective effect, and a lack of research on stability. This work proposes an ultraviolet (UV)-resistant enhanced sticker-type nanostructure acrylic resin antireflective film (SNAAF), which is applied to the incident surface of PSCs.

Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) currently face major challenges toward the removal of microcontaminants and/or microbial matrices and consequently play an important role in the potential dissemination of biological resistance in freshwater. The ultraviolet (UV) system is a tertiary treatment strategy increasingly applied worldwide, although many studies have shown that disinfected effluent can still contain antibiotic-resistant bacteria and resistance genes. Therefore, to better understand the effects of UV radiation doses on the removal of all resistance elements (antibiotics, antibiotic-resistant bacteria, and antibiotic resistance genes), the present study was designed using a pilot-scale photoreactor.

Background/purpose: The efficacy of riboflavin-ultraviolet-A (RF-UVA) treatment in crosslinking collagen and improving dentin bonding has been proven. However, biodegradation of the hybrid layer may compromise the bonding. The purpose of this study was to evaluate different RF-UVA treatments regarding their ability to preserve dentin bonding from enzymatic digestion.

Facile pesticide nanocapsules were successfully prepared by directly encapsulating the antisolvent precipitation of pesticides through instantaneous "on site" coordination assembly of tannic acid and Fe, avoiding tedious preparation, time consumption, and large amounts of organic solvents. The pesticide nanocapsules showed excellent resistance to ultraviolet photolysis and rainwater washing owing to the nanocapsule walls. The smart pesticide nanocapsules exhibited the controlled release of pesticides under multidimensional stimuli, such as acidic/alkaline pH, glutathione, HO, phytic acid, laccase, tannase, and sunlight, which were related to the physiological and natural environments of crops, pests, and pathogens.

A new type of filler was added to epoxy resin to prepare a composite coating with excellent corrosion and weathering resistance. The simple synthesis process and nonpolluting raw materials of this filler contribute to the development of green chemistry. Specifically, lignin was encapsulated in mesoporous silica, the synergistic effect between the two resulted in the formation of lignin/mesoporous silica composite particles (MSN-L) with excellent ultraviolet (UV) resistance.
