Evidence suggests that the pineal hormone melatonin modulates prolactin (PRL) secretion in part through direct effects on the anterior pituitary. However, high-affinity membrane receptors for melatonin are only found in the pars tuberalis (PT) of the anterior pituitary, whereas lactotrophs are confined to the pars distalis (PD). This study therefore sought to determine whether melatonin might have direct effects on the PD, through alternate pathways. Such a possibility had been suggested by recent reports of melatonin binding to members of the retinoid-related orphan nuclear receptor family (ROR/RZR). Expression of ROR(alpha)/RZR(alpha) isoforms was observed by reverse transcription PCR in the ovine PT and PD. Correspondingly unidentified nuclear proteins from these tissues showed binding to consensus DNA response elements for members of the ROR/RZR family. In contrast nuclear 2-[125I]iodomelatonin (IMEL) binding was not detectable in PD or PT extracts even at high ligand and tissue concentrations. Nevertheless, the conditions used allowed membrane and nuclear IMEL binding to be observed in PT and liver extracts, respectively. Overall these findings do not support the possibility of direct effects of melatonin on the adult PD, and by implication they reinforce the view that the melatonin-responsive PT is an intermediary in the control of PRL secretion.

The utilization of dual-working-electrode mode of interdigitated array (IDA) electrodes and other two-electrode systems has revolutionized electrochemical detection by enabling the simultaneous and independent detection of two species, accompanied by the exhibition of unique characteristics. In contrast to conventional dual-potential electrodes, such as the rotating ring disk electrodes (RRDE), IDA electrodes demonstrate analogous yet vastly improved performance, characterized by remarkable collection efficiency and sensitivity. Notably, due to the distinctive microscale structure of IDA electrode, the special "feedback" effect makes IDA a unique signal amplifier.

While recent studies suggested a potential causal link between type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) but not type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), the involved mechanism remains unclear. Here, using a Mendelian randomization (MR) approach, we verified the causal relationship between the two types of diabetes mellitus and IPF and investigated the possible role of inflammation in the association between diabetes mellitus and IPF. Based on genome-wide association study (GWAS) summary data of T1DM, T2DM, and IPF, the univariable MR, multivariable MR (MVMR), and mediation MR were successively used to analyze the causal relationship.

Social media are Internet-based services that allow participation in online communities and exchanges. Considering the high and increasing statistics of the use of social media all over the world and its impact on people's lives, the present study aimed to determine the relationship between social media and nutritional attitudes and body image shame among Iranian female students. This cross-sectional study was performed on 201 female student of Tehran University of Medical Sciences in Tehran, Iran from May to December 2023.

This study aimed to investigate the direct association between domestic violence and the indirect association of exposure through pregnancy, delivery, and neonatal risk factors with severe maternal morbidity (SMM). The target population of this case-control study included all women who gave birth in the hospitals of the Torbat Heidarieh University of Medical Science from June 2018 to May 2020. A total of 123 mothers with SMM according to the World Health Organization criteria were selected as cases, and 127 mothers who did not meet the World Health Organization criteria were included in the control group.

The longitudinal relationship between co-rumination and emotional problems has been understudied, particularly regarding the role of protective factors in moderating the relationship. This study employed a cross-lagged analysis to examine the bi-directional relationship between co-rumination and emotional problems, and the moderating role of self-compassion in this dynamic. The participants comprised 814 Chinese junior school students (M = 13.
