The role of tryptophan in DON-induced feed rejection.

Published: November 1996

Deoxynivalenol (DON, vomitoxin) commonly produced by Fusarium fungi can alter feeding behaviour of pigs and other farm animals. The effects of dietary tryptophan (TRP, precursor of brain amine serotonin) in combination with DON were examined in mice to determine if TRP can modulate DON toxicity. Results indicated that brain TRP can be influenced by dietary TRP, but no evidence of TRP potentiating DON toxicity was observed. Higher TRP levels likely induced amino acid imbalance leading to weight gain suppression.

« Augmented radiotherapy » in the management of high-risk prostate cancer (PCa): a systematic review.

Background: In patients with high-risk (HR) prostate cancer (PCa) treated with radiotherapy and androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), intensification with androgen receptor pathway inhibitor (ARPI) improves overall survival (OS), at the cost of significant side-effects. We hypothesized that "augmented RT" schedules (defined as either dose-escalation on the prostate gland over 78Gy and/or addition of whole pelvic radiotherapy (WPRT)), combined with long-term ADT can reach excellent prostate cancer specific survival (PCSS) in this population with little detrimental impact on quality of life.

The cocontamination of food by several mycotoxins and heavy metals poses significant health risks, and their combined toxic effects remain poorly understood. Particularly, specific studies exploring their combined impact on ferroptosis remain limited. In this work, we investigated the combined toxic effects of a mycotoxin, called deoxynivalenol (DON), and a heavy metal, called plumbum (Pb), and explored the potential mechanisms of DON and Pb co-occurrence via excessive ROS-induced ferroptosis in HK-2 cells.

Genetically engineered integrated aflatoxin B and deoxynivalenol bispecific nanobody as surrogate antigens for constructed time-resolved immunoassay dual detection methods.

There is a phenomenon of combined contamination of fungal toxins, of which aflatoxin B (AFB) is the most toxic, and deoxynivalenol (DON) contamination is common. The use of antigens for double or multiple testing of mycotoxins is easy to cause environmental pollution, and surrogate antigens have become necessary. The small molecule and susceptibility to genetic modification of nanobodies can be used to develop alternative antigens for mycotoxins.

Tea (Camellia oleifera Abel) seed oil (TSO) has antioxidant and pharmacological properties. In this study, TSO was obtained from tea seeds by subcritical n-butane extraction (SBE), which is an environmentally friendly method. The oil yield, quality characteristics, and chemical composition of the extracted TSO were compared with those of oils obtained by supercritical carbon dioxide extraction (SCDE) and conventional cold pressing (CP).

Electronic address:

Deoxynivalenol (DON), a mycotoxin that severely contaminates agri-food products can cause hepatotoxicity. Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent form of cell death, and the liver is an important organ for iron accumulation. 18beta-glycyrrhetinic acid (GA) has anti-ferroptosis and hepatoprotective effects.
