The author believes that there are several reasons that justify the use of a preliminary diagnostic and therapeutic arthroscopic examination in conjunction with an ankle ligament reconstruction. First, a high percentage of symptomatic unstable ankles demonstrate associated intra-articular pathologic conditions. Second, not all of these conditions are appreciated on preoperative clinical examination. Third, these pathologic conditions are addressed easily with standard arthroscopic techniques. Fourth, this technique addresses all of the periarticular problems that cause dysfunction. Last, ankle arthroscopy adds minimal time to the procedure and does not appear to confer significant morbidity.

Ganglion cysts are commonly found in areas of constant mechanical stress such as the joints and tendons of the wrist or hand as well as the anterior aspect of the ankle. In the knee, parameniscal cysts are often encountered secondary to meniscal tears or articular degeneration. Intra-articular ganglion cysts are uncommon and often arise from the cruciate ligaments and are found in the intercondylar notch.

Total talus replacement has been demonstrated to increase ankle instability. However, no studies have explored how to enhance postoperative stability. This study aims to explore the effect of collateral ligament reconstruction on ankle stability by finite element analysis.

A cross-sectional analysis was performed to investigate associations between environmental temperatures and injury occurrence in two professional male football (soccer) leagues. Data from seven seasons of the German Bundesliga (2142 matches) and four seasons of the Australian A-League (470 matches) were included. Injuries were collated via media reports for the Bundesliga and via team staff reports in the A-League and comprised injury incidence, mechanisms (contact, noncontact), locations (e.

Background: Knee valgus loading is thought to be an important contributor to noncontact anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, but the effects of training programs focusing on decreasing knee valgus loading on lower extremity biomechanics with respect to ACL injury risk remain unclear. Thus, this study aimed to examine the effect of strength training designed to strengthen the medial thigh muscles on lower extremity joint kinematics, kinetics and muscle activity during single-leg landing.
Methods: A total of 35 healthy participants randomly conducted either exercises targeting medial thigh muscles (intervention group) or exercises that did not target specific lower extremity muscles (control group).

Background: Acute ankle sprains are among the most common injuries in children and are often associated with chondral avulsion fractures and ligament injuries. However, radiography may not be sufficiently accurate for assessing cartilage and ligament injuries in children. The primary purpose of this study was to evaluate the necessity of radiography in the diagnosis of acute ankle sprains in children.
